So we just had a rather large group of Trick-or-Treaters walk up our hill. I counted kids. 28, with at least 20 parents standing in the street and in our yard waiting for them. All in all, I counted over 50 people in this one group. If you've never had a swarm of 50 people randomly walk up the hill and knock on you door, it is a very odd spectacle. That's pretty much all the neighborhood kids and then some, so now I'm just waiting for the later wave of people, aka the "We did our neighborhood by foot and now we're doing another neighborhood by car" people.

Who's being mean? That's the rule. If the parents knock on a house with too large a group, they'd better be ready to sort out the sharing.

I lived on the DC/Maryland border when I was a kid and we'd sometimes walk a few blocks into the MD McMansions to see friends and see what the crusty old rich people were doling out. So we see this kid, probably 13, in a 'golfer' costume which was all of a hat with a fuzzy ball on top and a leather golf club bag—and that joint was stuffed with candy, like he'd covered the metro area that night. Over the years when I've thought about that guy, I've vacillated between awe and disgust. Think I'm back to awe.
