Yesterday a loud sonic boom was heard of large areas of the UK as a pair of Typhoons were authorised to go supersonic for the 150 mile journey to intercept a Latvian cargo plane that was unresponsive to ATC. This caused a large volume of calls to authorities from concerned citizens but was confirmed a few hours later to be an intercept by the RAF.
The Cargo plane was escorted to Stansted airport and investigated.

Sloppy reporting by the BBC, not only was the An-24 not made in Russia, it was built back when Russia and Ukraine were both part of the Soviet Union.

oh I know, but you can't expect all journos/interns to be up on plane knowledge. I used this story as a ruse to post a pic of Typhoons.
whoops, did it again.
with bonus Spitfire.
