Hasn't crashed in like a month, but in most of that time it has hung for minutes at a time while autosaving. Did it autosave... anything of any kind from my work this morning? Did it bollocks. Autodesk, a word with you if I may...

Click OK to terminate. It's a CATIA thing. It'll crash, but it won't crash...it'll give you this fucking prompt. Click OK to terminate with an OK button. When you click OK CATIA just closes. It can even happen while saving, as pictured here. Fuck that thing.

Got this gem the other day...

-check out assembly

-make changes

-try to save

-"failed to save. This file is read-only"

-double check that I'm not a ree-ree and that the file is not indeed read-only

-open SW to see a frozen screen

-Click mouse a few times and I get that stupid blue screen that says SW closed unexpectedly and asks if I would like to send a report to DSS

-rinse, wash, repeat 2x to the same result

-Finally restart computer and all is good in the hood.

.

Motherfucker crashed like six times on me since lunch. All I was trying to do was a simple IMAGEATTACH. I even restarted the entire operating system, but that didn't help. Turns out it was the drawing file, which I had got from an architect. There's something special about those files Revit exports, or extrudes, or whatever they call it.

What version are you using? One thing I have discovered is that Civil3D 2014 is a lot less crashy than Civil3D 2012, which isn't saying much. Also, I sure hate that ribbon interface.

We're using SolidWorks on the project I'm working on. We were having trouble with saving and assemblies losing track of mates so we called a SolidWorks IT expert (outside expert if you will) and described how we were doing our data management. After we finished our description he said, "yeah, don't do that, SolidWorks isn't designed to handle what you guys want."

I actually suspect that in our particular situation, it was deliberate. We have noticed several "issues" with SolidWorks like particular actions being unusually tedious or difficult with the base software but simple and easy with add ons. We're trying to use SolidWorks for something that CATIA would be much better at. Unfortunately, the software choice was customer driven.

I have some drawing files that I suspect to be Revit exports here - I'm not naming names, but there's some serious fuck-upage with them. More insidious stuff than your Big Stack O'Error there, though.

As a daily user of Civil3D 2015 (I think that makes us cousins), I feel your pain.

We've found that by disabling some newer "features", the bugs seem to disappear as well. Especially all the auto-complete and auto-correct bullshit... it's AutoCAD, not a cell phone.

Kinja'd!!! RamblinRover Luxury-Yacht > and 100 more
10/29/2014 at 19:37

Kinja'd!!!0

The hell of it is, I don't even really know what it was. I think possibly a graphics-related error spurred by the unspeakably awful hatching tool. Just finished messing with a hatch, may still have had it selected, and then hit windows key + m to minimize it and some other stuff because a fire started with something else I had to put out. BOOM - autoCAD went down with all hands.

I wish more people knew about AutoCAD. That way it could be come a meme, and hopefully shame Autodesk into actually fixing the fucking beast.

Between the buggy graphics, the buggy hatch tool, and it's inability to be anything but the center of attention, I think you had yourself the perfect storm, sir.

I'll just say this: Inventor is worse. I've started using Solidworks and the interface alone is a million times better than Inventor is, and so far it seems way less crash-happy.

Even getting that POS Inventor to open was a 20 minute struggle, much less actually opening a friggin' assembly.

Kinja'd!!! RamblinRover Luxury-Yacht > Jake - Has Bad Luck So You Don't Have To
10/30/2014 at 11:54

Kinja'd!!!0

I've got Inventor here, but almost never use it - doing my 3d work in AutoCAD is more rewarding, and since I don't have the newest version of Inventor in the building, everything that has been opened by the guy who has it gets confused and loses sub-parts out of assemblies because they've been "updated". Then there's the whole project files nonsense and not being self-contained enough to just go into a folder and pull what you need. Sorry, Inventor, but no. Just no.

I've been known to open Inventor on occasion, just long enough to do an export to AutoCAD.

Kinja'd!!! Jake - Has Bad Luck So You Don't Have To > RamblinRover Luxury-Yacht
10/30/2014 at 12:03

Kinja'd!!!0

AutoCAD sure does have a drastically different interface to Inventor. Unfortunately, my school insisted on using Inventor for everything despite, from what I can tell, it being used absolutely nowhere professionally and just generally being an enormous pile.

Good job, my high school.
