"SonorousSpeedJoe" (SonorousSpeedJoe)

I just flagged a spam comment on today's Morning Shift. It can be done on Oppo comments as well - just open the menu for a particular comment and there should be a "Flag" option.

It's about time! I'm surprised that comment on the FP wasn't in the grey to begin with. Oh well.

As a test, will someone please flag this comment? Edit, or let me know if you are unable to because it is flagged?
ETA 2: Thanks all! Here's what it looks like from the moderation side, in case you are curious:

The URL for that user's Kinja is pretty different from the SN they're using. I figure that it's either it's a compromised account or the spammers responsible found some exploits or something in Kinja to make ungrayed comments. I'm no IT guy, though, so what do I know?

Thanks. I saw the initial Kotaku post on this when they introduced it there, so I'm pretty familiar with it.

I just flagged it, it said "flagged" in orange text where it usually says "reply".
I then un-flagged it in like manner, so I could write this comment.

Interesting, so once it is flagged, you can't reply to it in that state... Thanks!

No notification. I'm just looking forward to testing the functionality, I'm always intrigued by new functions and how they work.

How, exactly, are we supposed to know when something is flagged in order to deal with it?

It was mostly for others reading your post who wanted more info.

Yeah, I kinda figured as much; I had to leave my computer for a bit, though, so I couldn't edit my comment.
I apologize if I came off as rude in my previous reply, as that wasn't my intention at all.

It would be better if the option was to frag the spammer's account. I suggest you promote some of the spammers to authors on oppo and see if they publish spammy posts. It could be awesome.

All that means is they changed their user name from what they originally signed up with. Your kinja profile page stays as the original user name regardless of any changes you make to your name.

I'm not a mod, so I can't make authors out of spammers LOL.
I figure that once attention is drawn to a spam comment, Gawker IT would check through the spammer's account and then nuke it, so there would be a sort of natural progression to the end that you're describing if we use what we have now. Of course, this assumes that Gawker IT will do anything more than just nuke the comments, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

I've known about that functionality for a while - I'm focusing more on what the user's SN was changed to rather than how it was changed at all. It's a random e-mail address rather than something closer to the user's Kinja URL, which is different than if I were to change my SN to "SonorousSpeedWhoa".
I'm grasping at straws a bit, I suppose.

I think Gawker IT will quit once they find out how all those people are buying BMWs and making $4777 per month from home!!

I tested this comment with something... and now it's showing as pending...weird. Ignore various actions.
