Inside the engine that powers the SR-71. It's really not all that complicated, until it gets complicated.

I had a basic knowledge of how some of the systems work on that engine. Now, I understand (?) a bit more of the systems involved. Whew! It really isn't rocket science. It's turboramjet science. Which seems to be a lot more complicated. Thanks.

And they did all that with a slide rule, or rudimentary computers at best. That's what's truly amazing to me. That video does go pretty fast though. I need a little time to digest all of it.

Well said. I was all on board until about 3:15, nodding my head as they zoomed the model out. Then I looked at the timeline and saw there was over two minutes remaining.
Oh.. there's more....
Then came the part about cowl bleed, shock traps, suck-in and tertiary doors. It all made sense, and was something I didn't know about cooling the thing. I also realized all the extra engineering required to make it able to fly as slow speeds.
Again, I was nodding my head in understandi... Then I saw there was a minute left.
Then came the two-way boundry layer center body bleed, exterior grills, spike slits, more talk about the shockwave (which I thought they already had figured out) and then I....
Oh no....

I like the Buick-engined starter carts these monsters used!

And to think this was all done with slide rules and, at best, rudimentary computers.

I just stumbled across this J58 video through another source... I was going to share it here on Oppo, but did a search first... Good thing... Not much Aerospace stuff gets past You or F86Sabre... ;-)
Did you see the accompanying video they did on the Blackbird ?
