"Battery Tender Unnecessary" (carac)

Everything I've seen and read said the car is a beast in the snow. We'll see. I just know that below 40 degrees the stock Potenza's are worthless.

I've got 195/55R-15 Blizzaks on mine. Went through everything last winter without a hiccup. With traction control off the rear likes to swing under decel in corners so be aware of that...easily controllable though.

You put blizzaks on anything and it's a beast in the snow.

Just tire rack. They must have a decent stock for now. Everyone tends to wait until they need them and then they're out of stock. A lot cheaper to buy them early. I probably won't "need" them until Thanksgiving but better safe than sorry.

Seriously, the FiST's Potenzas feel rock hard in cold weather.
We don't get much snow down here in Tennessee, but I think it may be a good idea to get something just to be prepared. I'm thinking 15" steel wheels.

Michelin Ice X3's with 15" rims will run me about $800 from Costco right now, I should probably order them now as it is currently lightly snowing ATM.

I would be murdered if another set of rims appeared on the garage. Going to put them on the stock rims once the weather goes bad and if it heats back up/doesn't get as bad as expected I'll use a different car on sport/all-season tires. I was going to check on a set of steelies that will fit over the Fiesta brakes just satiate my curiosity.

i want steelies but its a tight budget. if i could drop down to 16's i could make it work but 17's plus rubber is too much. I'm having a hard time finding a reliable source to say if it would work or not.

I bought a pair of of Blizzak WS70's for my 08 2.5i last winter, this year they'll be slapped on my new to me 2011 WRX. Seriously the best purchase y0u can make for your car.

Just did the same thing last month, having them put on this weekend. $488 plus they give you a $50 prepaid card thing.

16s probably won't fit on the WRX. I believe they have the same brake setup as the LegacyGT. If so, they 16s won't clear the larger rotors. You'll have to get 17s.
Actually, it appears that I'm wrong. It turns out the LGT rotors were actually larger than WRX so while the LGT can't take 16s, a lot of people have had success with 16s on the WRX.

I guess it depends on what year you have, but these 2 threads discuss it and the consensus seems to be that 16s do fit (tons of pictures in the first link):

I just called Town Fair Tire. they say that they will fit 16's. I have a '14 hatch. Its $729 for 16" steels and rubber vs $590 for 17" rubber only.

$729 sounds like a fair price. Does that price include shipping or are you local to pick them up? If you're local, check TireRack to see if the Blizzaks are cheaper (they're running a special at the moment). Town Fair will (usually) price match TireRack (and vice-versa).

i found continentals on 16's for $648. I dont need top notch tires, any winter tire is better than summers. i'm basically tryin to keep this low cost as possible.
