Fluke or has BMW lost a step? Sport Auto managed to get a pretty good time out of it at Hockenheim - !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! - and its 'Ring time is quick (with the carbon ceramic option, anyway). Hated to read that R&T found it "cold and distant" compared to the Cayman S and C7.

Related: I will be test-driving an SS with a manual and magnetic suspension once they show up on lots...

Fast is good, but fun is better.

Interesting world when there are 2 M's and an AMG in the bottom of a top 10 list, that has 2 chevy's ahead of them and Jaguar is at the top.

Reminds me of the late '90s in Speed Vision World Challenge where the new 996 911 based race car came out and got beat by a 4th Gen LS1 Firebird and the Porsche team was fuming. I wish I could have saved that video and uploaded it to YT.

It's particularly confusing because of the Nurburgring times.

8:19 in the SS and 7:52 for the M4.

I know they are very different courses but I'm surprised that the SS beat it with:

More weight (3975 vs 3530 for the manual M4)

Worse brakes (153 (C&D) vs 143.3 (autocar test with ceramics) and 151 (C&D unclear on brakes))

Less power (415 vs 425hp)

Skinnier front tires with less sticky rubber (245 vs 255 and a 10 year old Bridgestone RE050A (that placed 9/11 in a 2005 C&D comparo) vs a much newer designed Michelin Super sport (that placed first in a 2012 C&D comparo))

Basically... How the hell was the M4 slower?! And I won't agree with chassis development because while Chevy may be one of the best (they are), BMW is right there with them as well AND is starting from a much lighter stiffer platform as well.

Weird.

Was at the track on Thursday - knocked four seconds off my best time from a month and a half ago, but still all in third gear. I did try for all of one session to grab 2nd in the tight corners and 4th on the longer straights, but ended up quite a bit slower on all of those laps.

Interesting. Any video? How was the weather? I'm done for the season and focusing on the house. I haven't even taken my GoPro mount or mic out of the car yet or switched my brake pads back. It's been total chaos. Poor thing is filthy...

I took my GoPro, but never ended up getting it set up to get any video. A friend caught me passing him and chased me for a lap and a half - if I get that uploaded, I'll let you know. It rained early that morning, so it was damp in the morning, but completely dry and perfect out by noon. Last time this year, unless I manage to squeeze in an autox with the local BMWCCA.

It was so cheap - hard to believe. And it was awesome to have it all to ourselves.

A few of the guys were pretty spooked by the wet track, but with my PSS I had no surprises.

Yeah it was sad. Watching the videos though it seemed like the driver of the M4 could have been on the throttle a lot more than he was. The shifts also could have been faster.
