"Bluecold" (Bluecold)

I'm visiting London in a few weeks, from the 8th of november until the 12th.
Now would the brits appreciate tourists wearing the iconic poppies, or should we shy away from wearing them since we are not british?

Depends. Are you from Germany?

Everyone is very welcome to wear a poppy, although if you feel at all awkward, you could always buy one and not wear it.

Yeah ;) Don't worry about it! I've seen foreign tourists from all over wearing poppies on the 11th, it's the gesture that's appreciated.

I was particularly commenting on Germans, though - some million-plus poppies are sold over there every year.

I can't foresee any problems with it as long as it's worn correctly

Well it was a World War and the poppy isn't our invention so go ahead.

When there you might notice that it's compulsory to wear a poppy if you're on television. Indeed it's been so since about the middle of this month.

Thanks for the reply, I do notice that 'correctly' is open to interpretation (as is everything that is british and steeped in tradition...), but using it as a lapel pin is always correct?

Is it actually compulsory or just considered exceedingly poor taste if you omit one? It kind of takes away from the sincerity if it's forced.

Well, not literally compulsory but the BBC in particular go in for competitive poppy wearing. Newsreaders, reporters, presenters - you can't get away from them.
