Today's the last day of scheduled operations for the passenger version of the McDonnell-Douglas MD-11, ever. There's some "Enthusiast sight seeing" flights on Nov. 11, but they don't count.
PH-KCB departed YYZ (Toronto) for AMS (Amsterdam) as KL32 at 6:00pm this evening. It was delayed half an hour for a small goodbye ceremony at YYZ.
PH-KCE is about to depart from YUL (Montreal) for AMS, also delayed for a small goodbye ceremony at YUL.
This will bring to an end 24 years of passenger service for the MD-11, 21 of thos years with KLM. I've been lucky enough to work on this aircraft with KLM, and the skies will certainly be a less interesting place without the MD-11. Think of the MD-11 as an outlandish 80s sports car, and all other airliners from the modern time as a late 90s Toyota Camry.
Here's a shot I took of KLM32 as it taxied for departure at YYZ today.

Sad to see her go. The DC-10/MD-11 is one of my all-time favorites. At least she'll be soldiering on in cargo form for a while longer.
