Question. Why does Jalopnik post stories that aren't car related?

Why am I seeing a story on Ebola? Or a story on some military plane flying? Or some guys jumping a jet boat with snowmobiles? I know I don't have to click on them, but when I'm sifting through the front page, which I don't visit often, it's annoying. It seems now, most actual car related content is coming from CarBuying and the other sub-blogs now.

Is this what Jalopnik editors do all day? And then they realize, crap, let's post a story of anything with an engine.

No offense to Doug DeMuro, his stories are funny. My message here is pointed towards the main Jalopnik editors/writers.

Jalopnik isn't just about cars. It's about all things transportation.

Ebola can be theoretically caught on a Subway, hence why it's posted there.

Yeah, aside from technical issues this is the biggest issue with Kinja. "Let's make it super easy for our writers to repost other people's stories, so they don't have to write as much, or at all." I think some stories a probably being shared at the direction of the Gawker mothership.

Stories from Oppositelock are shared to the Front Page via request (typically via twitter) of poster of said story or they might actually be surfing Oppo.

Then what is the point of "Drive Free or Die"? Majority of people can't drive a Subway or Military airplane, or any airplane for that matter.

Well, the ebola one was from code3, which is concerned with first responder type positions, who are all on edge about ebola.

The military stuff comes from the Foxtrot Alpha sub blog. Which is a cool site.

The boat you're referring to I believe had some crazy bmw motor in it (car tie in).

They also share stories from jalopnik Detroit, car related or not because of America's auto industry being centered there.

Just comes back to the old policy for the front page. If you don't want to read it scroll on by my friend.

Jalopnik is more of a life style blog these days than a car blog. If you don't like it you could just do what 90% of oppo does and not go there.

Because Gawker Media is a soulless beast! I've gotten over some of the "WTF is this story on MY Jalopnik?" but the ones I don't sit for are the "reposted/shared" BS from Jezebel or Deadspin that some of the senior leadership here at Jalopnik PUSHES to the front page. There seems to be a lot of new "posters", they are not journalist so don't call them that. I'm not sure what Matt & crew are up to, but I wish they'd tell the Mothership to piss off so we can have the site back.

I agree with the airplane comment... this is a car blog, not a plane blog. If Kinja wasn't such a POS I'd think you could filter the posts you'd like to read/not read.

And holy crap would it kill the authors of the posts to spellcheck or have their piece read ONCE before posting?

As has been mentioned, the military aircraft post came from Jalopnik's "Foxtrot Alpha" sub-blog, which is dedicated to being all about military and military tech, so a story on military aircraft is exactly what they should be writing about (or more accurately "he should be writing about", since pretty much all stories there are written by military specialist Tyler Rogaway). Honestly a lot of the Foxtrot Alpha stuff is excellent, and Tyler's expose on the military's cutting edge top secret aircraft was pretty much the best and most in depth piece on the subject written by anyone anywhere.

As for the Ebola story, it borders on the edge of fitting within Code 3's field, but honestly even if it doesn't really fit I think it's a good, important story. With seemingly everyone freaking out about Ebola while knowing nothing about the disease, and most media outlets just fanning the flames, I think a story saying "this is what Ebola does to someone, this is how it's transferred, this is how you can catch it, and this is why you need to CALM THE FUCK DOWN" was desperately needed.

Agreed, it looks difficult...despite how huge the wing is on GT3s, it’s not easy to hit a ping pong straight and with the right amount of power. Props on getting the ping pong back into play though when it tries to run away! Awesome car you have. 996s are my favorite 911s.
