I have no intention of entering a LeMons race (logistics are a little tricky up in the Great White North) but hearing the guys on The Smoking Tire talk about the events and experiencing my first taste of track driving, I wanted to see what kind of cars might be available. Interesting choices.

Turns out that nationally on !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , there are only 25 options for cars $500 or less and have stick shifts (no way I'd want to race with an auto).

How about a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ? Or maybe a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ? I like this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! but I'm going to guess it will require more money to get running well.

Interesting there are actually more available provincially on !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! (that link is even trimmed down to 2 door coupes). It'd be interesting to see what level of running-ness that most other teams start with.

Your best bet for suitable lemons cars are probably insurance auctions.

That's an interesting choice, but I'm thinking there is a lot of potential to go wrong in something high pressure like an auction and it may be hard to tell exactly what's wrong with the car (unless of course it's had the front smashed in).

You want to look for a car that's been hit in the rear or in the side. They'll be selling for incredibly cheap, especially if they're sorta shit cars to begin with.

If you really want to know the answer to that question, the best way to find out would be to go to an event and ask around the paddock the night after the first race when everyone has been drinking a sufficient quantity of beer. then you might be able to get a straight answer.
