Beautiful scenery and two exhilarating vehicles that make wonderful noises. It doesn't get much better than this.
Also, you might enjoy this video as well, as it really captures the GT3's exhaust note:

So Ferrari is willing to allow a video comparison against a GT3 but no one else? They can be so vexing sometimes.

the want for a 991 GT3 is crazy.. But I won't allow myself to spend over $100k on a car that doesn't have a third pedal.
Good thing I love the 997.2 GT3!
I liked the R8, but then I drove a GT-R and it's made the R8 appear soft. While the R8 I drove was a V8 spyder, the GT-R absolutely took the spot as my favorite AWD exotic. The lack of a third pedal just kills me though. I've yet to try an AWD 911 yet.

Most definitely. For instance, I was just thinking a few days ago about how much I used to enjoy flogging the 4.0 around my favorite backroads. The sound, grip, and precision just worked so well together.

Haha. I admire your resolve but that's going to become increasingly difficult to maintain.
Interesting. You're one of the few people I've heard of that enjoy the GT-R over the "established" brands.
You'll probably like the 991 Turbo S if you're not turned off by the GT-R's exhaust note.
AM3R
> CAcoalminer
10/16/2014 at 18:34 | 0 |
I bet I'd enjoy the V10 R8 manual coupe more than the GT-R. The dual clutch V8 spyder was still great, but I had more fun in the GT-R.
I am in fact a fan of the exhaust note on the 991 turbo s. Have you heard any Porsches that have been touched by the boys over at BBI Autosport? They are a god among Porsche tuners IMO..
Unfortunately I have a problem that's stopping me from buying any of these. I have no garage!

Most likely.
I believe that I've seen a few of their cars but I don't have extensive knowledge of them.
Oh. That is quite the issue.
AM3R

10/16/2014 at 19:18 | 0 |
they offer custom exhausts, tunes, suspension kits, etc. for mainly for VAG products.
It is, it's why I can't buy myself a toy yet. What's the point of buying a GT-R or R8 if i know its gonna get covered in door dings and crap all the time?
CAcoalminer
> AM3R
10/16/2014 at 19:22 | 0 |
Ah. I see.
True but I assume that you would use them extensively. Therefore, door dings will unfortunately most likely happen even if you did have a garage.
AM3R
> CAcoalminer
10/16/2014 at 19:29 | 0 |
it certainly wouldn't be a garage queen, but i've gotten some nasty dings from my neighbors. A lot of young kids in my neighborhood.
Another thing is the attention, I like the 911, R8, and even the GT-R due to how relatively subtle they are as long as you avoid certain colors. I would feel weird if everyone stared at me whenever I drove the car to leave my neighborhood.

10/16/2014 at 19:54 | 0 |
Very well. Thank you for asking. How have you been?
Thankfully, no. They've all been very well behaved, just the usual maintenance. Ofcourse, the GTs have never given me issues.
Concerning the 12c specifically, mine has always been an extremely reliable vehicle. In fact, the only issues I have with it had to do with small electronic glitches (the navigation wouldn't always work, it wouldn't recognize my phone, etc.) Fortunately, they've all been fixed with software updates.

That's good to hear. I've been doing fine as well, unfortunately that gradual change in weather has hit and it's usually pretty gloomy outside, but besides that, nothing to complain about!
That's good to here. I've heard the GT's were rather robust, not really any problems popping up unless the cars were driven very aggressively. I saw one in a garage just the other day, wow! Almost forgot how much I like them.
CAcoalminer
> AM3R
10/16/2014 at 20:41 | 0 |
I'm glad to hear that.
Huh. Well I wonder who you heard that from. The GT is an extremely robust vehicle that should have no problems at all, even when driven aggressively. In fact, the only thing that seems to hurt them are 3rd gear starts and terrible electrical grounds that will kill your gauges. The engine and transmission will easily hold up to 1,000 hp without any modifications other than a different clutch.
Personally, I only change fluids and filters and have never had any issues.

I spoke to an older gentlemen at a local cars & coffee. He was telling me he was retiring it from track duty because the maintenance was getting too expensive, so he picked up a spec miata to keep costs down.
Any performance mods on either of your GT's?

10/16/2014 at 21:22 | 0 |
That's very strange. To track a GT, all you need is a transmission cooler, brake upgrade (I just use different Brembo front rotors but AP Racing also has a kit for all for corners that gets you 6 piston fronts), track pads (I prefer the Pagid RS), make the factory front brake ducts functional, and maybe a racing radiator but I've never had any issues with the stock one. I mean you could also add Hoosier R6s and an Ahlman Engineering suspension but they really aren't absolutely necessary.

All true
But both of these cars are so expensive. If buying may as well get the most special one. You could always buy a 997.1 C2 Manuél for $35K to have for practical reasons :)
CAcoalminer
> Manuél Ferrari
10/18/2014 at 11:43 | 1 |
I agree that there are much more practical vehicles than both of these but my point is that the GT3 straddles that line between practicality and race car better than the 458, in my opinion. While both are track focused vehicles, they still need to be practical, as most owners will use them on the street as well. Therefore, I feel like the GT3 is the better car because it has 97% of the 458's ability yet has more luggage space, is more economical, costs less, and has better sound insulation. The 458 Speciale is a terrific vehicle but if given the choice, I would take the GT3 every time because it performs on the track and is still pleasant to drive home in.
On a vaguely related note, have you read today's front page post about the GT-R? Completely misguided.

this is all true as well. But I also think it depends on what you have in the garage. The super beetle would be the better buy for you because you already have mid engine exotics covered. Let's say you're only other car was a luxo barge. Then you would have practicality and quietness covered and would want your weekend toy to be as bat shit as possible.
No I have not seen that yet. Most articles on this car are misguided. I have seen a good post though by Opponaut who rented one for a weekend.

wow.. I'm truly speechless. Just amazing, I was never a HUGE GT fan but now I'm not sure.. That color is outstanding. I'd love to get the chance to detail it!
How does 720whp feel on the street/track?

10/20/2014 at 19:08 | 0 |
Thank you. Which color are you referring to? I have a black and blue one. However, the blue one is the only one that is modified.
Incredible to say the least. Where as my stock GT at 550 hp will easily hook up in any gear, the modified one definitely takes patience. That being said, it's not as if the power absolutely ruins the vehicle. You just have to be more aware of how much throttle you're applying in relation to how much steering lock you are using.

the blue! The black looks great too, but if you've ever seen me talking to Rusto, you'd know I'm a sucker for a nice shade of blue!
Very good way to put it. Most powerful car I've driven had an estimated 600whp. It was.. Interesting to say the least haha. Definitely possible to drive it sanely though, it was a modded track prepped R35 GT-R, which is surprisingly easy to drive. I've looked into getting one, but I really want a manual..
There's this gorgeous blue 2013 GT-R with only 8k on it for $84k. Such a bargain IMO.

Good choice. The Midnight Blue Metallic is my favorite color as well. Maybe that's why I ordered her from the factory with it.
Ah yes, the GT-R. I've been done that road as:
While manuals are terrific, I'm completely convinced that double clutch transmissions are the better overall choice. You might wait for the R36 to come out as the prices might fall even further.

I certainly enjoyed the double clutch in the GT-R, the DCT in the E90 M3 is great as well. I just miss having a third pedal!
On a bad note, just walked out to my car to pick up some printer ink and noticed a huge ding on one of my doors. Thanks neighbors! This is why I choose to drive a 328i instead of an M3/GT-R/911....

I've been contemplating an R8 4.2 V8, but part of me just wants to jump into a V10. Besides that I've thought about 997 GT3's, getting a 993/964 and going the RWB route, E9x M3's, E60 M5's, etc.
My love for cars has become a problem, I really don't know what to get haha. If jaguar released a manual F-type coupe I'd know exactly what to get.
No note, I'll have to talk to them tomorrow. It's not exactly something I can buff out..
