Kinja'd!!!

Right now, the AC is on, although the dial is not on AC or MAX AC. Is there any way to turn the AC off without adjusting the temperature dial? Why even have a spot on the dial for "AC"?

I see you drive a Ford.

This is the Taurus, aka, the Snowbeast.

Nope. You can see everything in the photo. I assume "Max AC" means recirc. So what does the AC button do if the AC is always on when I turn the knob all the way to cold? Who designed this?

probably the same people that did my A6. On auto, it thinks recirculating the very hot cabin is a better source of air than fresher outside air. Never hit auto button lol

Maybe if you go to "off"?

I've noticed something similar on my car. I can have the A/C button pressed but spin the wheel to hot and it will blow hot.

So I agree "Why even have a spot on the dial for "AC"?"

No, but see you can still use AC for hot air, that's normal. In this car, there is no button for AC. I cant use AC for hot air. I cant not use it for cold air. Yet there is still a spot on the dash that says AC.

lol, this thing ain't got no auto button. Seriously, this shouldn't bother me so much, but what does it all mean? It would make sense if all the different settings just blew fresh air, and AC blew regular non-recirc AC through the dash vents, and MAX AC blew recirc-AC through the dash vents, but that's not how it works.

That shuts off all air completely.

can't you just put the rightmost knob to "off" ?

I actually flipped through my 2000 mustang's manual a while back looking for just this. MAX AC recirculates, AC takes outside air and then pumps past the freon. I think the other modes were just vent, but tbh I just had an AC tube explode on the freeway and vent all my freon to the night sky so I kinda junkedaway my knowledge on stupid ford AC controls away since

Wait, so if you turn the AC/vent control to "Off" it overrides the fan switch totally?

Kinja'd!!!1

Whoa. I was about to say "bro you're so dumb..." but the Ford products I was familiar with either had a separate switch for Max/AC/Vent or simply didn't have the "A/C" on that knob.

Quite a paradox.

Here's what I found, but it still doesn't really make sense:

No, I know that. But maybe it'll disengage the clutch as well if you go to "off."

Try the knob all the way to the left. Usually th fan symbol indicates AC off and just the fan running to move air.

any reason in particular you don't want to move the temperature selector knob?

straight up should be a more or less comfortable temperature when it's not hot or humid out

I know on a lot of cars, using the defroster with the temp setting on cold turns the AC compressor on. Something I've always found kind of annoying.

10/16/2014 at 10:50

Kinja'd!!!0

Well I'm sure it will, but what's the point? I don't want to turn the fan off, just the AC.

Kinja'd!!! macanamera > claramag, Mustaco Master

The other modes aren't just vent for me though. If the temp dial is on cold, they are AC.

Yes. The fan dial doesn't have an off setting. It's just low to high. You turn the fan on with the far right knob that also has the AC labels.

Kinja'd!!! macanamera > Snooder87

That just controls fan speed. You have to select on of the options on the far right knob for it to even be on.

aw, gotcha. You just want air without having the AC engaged.

Solution: Buy a new car..=D

are you sure the AC is actually running, you live in the new England area right? so it was probably a pretty cool morning that is to say maybe that cool air was from outside.

I know those knobs anywhere, refreshed blob Taurus.

I've never understood the setup for this either. It's missing buttons compared to GM set ups and confuses me. That's why when I'm in my girlfriend's car, I just roll the windows down.

Huh. Weird *shrug* RTFM, read the Ford manual. Ford of that era was weird
