Nearly a 30% weight savings and a small reduction in drag. The Peterbilt concept tractor is neat, but Great Dane's Carbon Fiber trailer can probably hit the road within a year...

Color me impressed.

This isn't just great news for truckers, it means that we may see carbon fiber work it's way into mass produced cars.

Maybe help drive prices down as well. Although from when I was looking at it a few months back, it seemed like the resin was the expensive part, unless you bought it by the drum.

While this is great news, from what I can tell only the trailer uses carbon fiber. It's pretty simple to fabricate cured sheets of carbon fiber and manufacture products with it. The expensive part comes into play when using carbon fiber in a design that requires a complex surface and/or structure. Regardless, this is could be a good step forward.
