More specifically, luxobarges for less than €3k à la E32, post 1985 W126 and Audi V8.

I'd go W126! They are tanks and well-maintained examples go 300k mi plus. Everything else here, I have no idea. But somehow I feel like the e32/the v8 would be significantly less reliable/harder to find parts for. My experience with other old BMWs is that they are total maintenance whores with expensive parts. If you can find an e32 with an m30 though, that might be ok?

wow yeah LS400 is the real answer, especially at this price point. 98 and up are supposed to be best

Personally, I'd skip them all and go for the more obscure Bitter SC sedan. Now THAT'S a German luxobarge.

a) The question was about GERMAN luxobarges.
b) The LS is more of a 9os car.

Dem Mercedes-Benz maintenance prices tho.
If at all it would come down to the W126 and M30 powered E32s, however I don't know how good the rustproofing on those is.

W126 would be the safest bet, but them Mercedes parts prices though! Stripper model M30 is next best.

about the same. Benz you need to watch a few spots, same on the BMW. Overall not too bad though. I would find a 300SDL diesel then you really have to think about parts very infrequently

My Dad had one. Then he gave it to my Mom. Then she sold it to my friend. Then he drove it until the interior was shot to shit and his gf complained. It probably had over 250K miles at that point. It had very few problems during its run.

I thought they look more Nissany. I have no idea if they're original, but I found a couple of others on GIS with the same wheels, so I guess they were one of the options.
I like it much more with these:

"Give me your ST!"
This convo made me realize that anyone who has a family should buy a used LS. They are reliable. And they have one for every budget.
Let's say you were thinking of spending $35K on your family car. Why not buy this?

I've aways had a thing for V12s and the procon-ten system in the Audi is interesting too. Above all Lancia Thema 8.32 with a Ferrari V8 just cause.

If you buy an LS400 you can hoon it till the body gives up, then rip out V8 and install in one of those kit race cars

It appears to be, but all pre-92 164s have this front spoiler, although on the QV it is a tad bigger. If you take a closer look at the sideskirts and rear apron you'll see that on yours they are much more visible and pronounced than on mine.
For better comparison:
