This is by far the worst person I've dealt with regarding the sale of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Particularly, because this is the first time someone has tried to forcibly command me to take their cash offer. EDIT: I should probably note the car is for sale for $11,800, as a reference to the offer.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

There's plenty of things I wanted to say, but I decided to just keep it cool. There seemed to be some sort of misconception to him that the car is a large burden upon me, which it simply isn't. Along side the fact that it's all paid for and does no harm to me sitting in the garage, it's still a blast to drive. I'd prefer to sell it soon, but if it doesn't sell in the fall, I'm completely ok with storing it through the winter and raising the price in the spring.

Also, cash offers don't phase me. Probably 80-85% of everything I've sold has been in cash. Everything I buy has been in cash. I don't want to sound smug, but I'm doing well enough that the prospect of $9000 isn't going to just make me drool and forget the value of the car.

Lastly, tip to buyers out there. Don't ever tell the owner what their car is worth. It isn't ever anything other than insulting.

Just though I'd share.

Keep your cool. I have found that if you're polite a buyer may come back at a higher offer, and it also keeps the door open if you don't get any other nibbles.

You're right, but I highly doubt he'll come up.

Either way, I'm not even entertaining his offer.

That was...impressive? Like I feel like Ron Burgundy after Baxter ate an entire wheel of cheese and pooped in the refrigerator. I'm not even mad, that's amazing. "Your car isn't worth anything, now sell it to me!" is some next level, Jedi mind trick shit.

That said, 0% chance of me keeping my cool in that situation. Even if he came up to $11, I still wouldn't sell it to that jerk.

When he said "Ur cars worth 10k, just take the 9k and move on" I lost it. This guy is crazy! Basically he said, "Hey there's a great chance someone will buy it at at least 10k, so logically, you should just sell to me for less..." Riiigght.

Ughhhhh I wish i had the money to buy your car. Fucking gorgeous dude.

Whenever I sell cars on CL i use my Google Voice number and drop contact when they seem too retarded to exist. I don't deal with dudes who can't come up with real numbers.

That's the worst you've had? Dude was pretty polite and not ungodly low.

Last time I was selling I had a guy meet up look it over. He went home then contacted a few days later saying he'd meet my price. Buttoned everything up drove out to meet him at Home Depot for the exchange and he brought only 50%. I was like...um no? Then he started screaming about how we'd agreed and he'd be suing me. Then stated he'd follow me home and just take the car.

Good times...I hate selling privately.

I thought that a bit after I was done. Money still talks, so I'd probably still sell it if he came up to my price, but I'd definitely cringe at the thought of that asshole driving around in my car that I treating so nicely.

I've had people like this before. I even had someone try to do this on my fully custom hardtail bobber built on a Yamaha XS650 chassis, pulling up values for a full stock XS. I usually just tell them, If you're truly interested in the vehicle, come look at it first, then we can talk money. I don't accept offers via text.

Smartphones today have sophisticated programming designed to give user alternate word choice options when you type out an erroneous word. For example, 'ur' would cause the autocorrect software to offer at least three other choices for perusal. It would only take one other click to substitute 'Ur' with 'Your, You're, or 'You are'.

With that said, how does someone too dumb to spell 'Your' right, and too dumb to select the correct word when it is presented to him have the wherewithal to squirrel away $9k? I want to say he must be a drug dealer, but even drug deals take a modicum of intelligence and cunning to escape law enforcement/being shot to death by rival drug dealers, right?

God, I wish our customers in the car business would follow this advice. They buy a car once every five years. We sell a couple hundred a month. Yet they know more about the car's value than we do?

This is EXACTLY why I got a Google Voice number to do my texting and calling on regarding Craigslist bullshit. Craigslist is the land of lowballers. I hate it. I won't use it anymore. I'm happy to occasionally buy something on there, but getting less so, owing to the sheer number of shady shitheads who troll it looking to rip people off.

Keeping cool is best, but I would definitely have considered blocking that guy's number after the third time he came back with a "retort" (honestly he sounded like a whiny little bitch the whole time.)

I just had the best car buying experience ever when I bought my M5 a few weeks back. I paid what he was asking. I probably could have gotten it for less but the guy was great, did a ton of work on it the weekend before I picked it up, had priced it very reasonably (probably a little too low honestly) and had written a thoughtful, detailed ad which made me confident in buying from him. He also had a bunch of local contacts for discounted parts/oil, etc. and threw in a bunch of extra parts. When I picked it up from him, as he was driving away, he noticed a leak that I would have missed. Came back the next day, pciked up the car and found and fixed the source of the leak. He didn;t need to do any of that but because I had treated him fairly and the whole process had been pleasant, he was happy to oblige. I ended up throwing him an extra $100 for all the work/time he put into getting the car ready for me before I picked it up.

Sometimes it pays to look beyond just dollar signs. too bad this clown didn't realize it. I love how he tries to bully you into taking his offer. Sounds like the type of dude who'll wrap it around a tree shortly anyway...

^ That right there is awesome. I can't say I'd ever be that overly-nice, but I like seeing it. I agree with all of that except I do really think it's worth at least $11k looking at dollar signs. He only plugged it in to KBB as 'Good' condition. The car's garaged and only driven on the weekends now really. I believe it's better than 'Good' condition.

I realize this post is internet-ancient, but you should try flipping old fleet work trucks. Frustrating doesn't even begin to describe the misery. Me and a friend scored a batch of Ford diesels for dirt cheap, two 7.3's and a bunch of 6.0's. We got most of them running. Parted out one, and sold two as non-runners. Anyway, most of the contacts we got weren't even in english. That's part of selling trucks in the Houston, Tx area though.

I've done one truck like that before, but I've definitely wanted to hop on diesel trucks. I just need to find one or some that need work.

People spend a fortune on diesel trucks here in the midwest.
