Well done! These old XJs are capable out-of-the-box, easy to work on and modify, tough as nails, and cheap as dirt. They're like the Fox body Mustang of the 4x4 world! The community support is pretty good, too. Great machines. Every true Jalop should own at least one!
What engine/trans do you have?

Welcome to the club, have a drink.... Lol.
As for no surface rust, don't take off those plastic end caps or prepare to be horrified ;) Also, get a case of PB blaster if you're planning on working on it yourself. If anything starts acting up... It's probably a sensor.

It's always been at or near the top of my personal list of ideal winter beaters.

I agree! They're also handy for pulling trees out of the tree line after summer storms... which is something mine did lots of this year. Gotta get that firewood!

Again, welcome to the club!
Weird question: does yours have cruise control? I have a '96 Sport (manual) and it's the one thing mine doesn't have.

Weird. Mine has power windows/locks, tilt wheel, overhead compass/thermometer, rear wiper/washer - basically everything I could think of but no cruise control which always baffles me.
Not like I ever use cruise control much in cars, it's just weird to not have it.
