So this weekend I will be going to New York for the Miku live concert , and would like to get some tips from people that live there or know it. I've been in NY once, but it was like 5 years ago and it was a guided trip.
From some quick research, for getting from JFK to Manhattan, Airtrain seems the best option. Is this true? I think I will mostly be walking and using the subway. Is there some kind of bike rental?
What would you recommend seeing? Are there any areas where the fancy cars go? Fancy car dealerships?
I will be carrying my Mirrorless Camera with two lenses everywhere, is this asking for trouble? Or is NY kind of safe.
Any interesting restaurants or places to go? Any general tips?
Thanks.

Never used Airtrain - we're lazy and call a car service because we don't have to wait. Dial 7 or CarMel are popular. Taxi ... is a fixed amount to/from airport, but I forgot how much.
We have Citibike, and I believe you can get a membership for a couple days.
Ferrari and Mercedes have nice showrooms on Park Avenue in the 50s. The other dealerships are mostly on 12th Avenue - not worth the trip.
Eisenberg's sandwich shop on 5th Ave. at 22nd - a real slice of old New York. Pastrami, best tuna melt in the city, and real egg creams. The Metropolitan and Guggenheim are great art galleries and walking distance from each other. The Central Park Zoo. Strawberry Fields across from the building where John Lennon was shot (72nd and Central Park West). It's in Central Park.
Your camera should be safe - just don't flaunt it and put it in the case when you're not using it.
I'll think of more - what do you like to do?

I live in Long Island but I have lived in NYC for a few years too. I don't know the best way to get to JFK from Manhattan since I always drive to JFK instead.
That said, you can check out Classic Car Club in Manhattan, where JBH used to work and Aaron Brown is still there IIRC.
Also check out some contemporary art galleries in Chelsea if you're into that sort of thing. It's free too.

The only thing better than watching racing, is racing yourself.

Also - Empire State Building observation deck. See a show at the magnificent old Beacon Theater (74th and Broadway). If you like family-style Italian, Lydia Bastianich's restaurant Becco is excellent (Theater District). Down in Little Italy, Umberto's Clam House, where Crazy Joe Gallo was gunned down - I've never had the food, but I've heard it's good. In Chinatown - Joe's Shanghai for excellent soup dumplings.
Chelsea Piers if you want to do a little batting cage, driving range, and similar. USS Intrepid Museum - see a space shuttle (never flew in space though). Across the street, H&H Bagels, the real thing. If you go to Times Square, get off the subway, look around, and go somewhere else. It's very touristy.
If you want shopping, SoHo has lots of little boutiques. If you want sushi, Blue Ribbon Sushi, also in SoHo. Lots of interesting people/places in Greenwich Village. There's a little Italian red sauce place there called, I think, Spaghetto - I love it. The Macy's on Herald Square, where the Thanksgiving Day Parage ends, has a wooden escalator - it's fun to walk around that store.
No reason to go to Rockefeller Center - it's not Christmas. Oh - and The Whitney if you like modern art.

Thank you very much! Didn't know there was an Air&Space museum, will definitely go. Love pasta, so will definitely try Spaghetto. Do you happen to know any good burger restaurants? Again, thanks.

Thanks Nibby. Is the Classic Car Club open to the public? Sorry if I'm being ignorant, but who are JBH and Aaron Brown? Googling JBH yields no results, and is Aaron Brown this guy: http://ambrown.kinja.com ?

The museum is an aircraft carrier ... the exhibits are parked on the deck. You'll love it. http://www.intrepidmuseum.org/

Burgers - you can get a $26 burger at Minetta Tavern - too expensive but so delicious. Sorta reasonably priced burger can be had at Shake Shack - there are a few of them - if you want to see Grand Central Station, there's one there. http://www.shakeshack.com/

I visited there with a friend and asked a worker if Mr. JBH was there (this was last year) and basically as a member of Oppo you're free to go and look around. No sitting and touching though, even though I'm sure that's a given.
Just ask JBH or Aaron in advance! And yes, you found the correct Aaron.

There are no private messages in Kinja right? I'll just comment in one of JBH or Aaron posts. Thanks!
