Would I? Make this the rallycross project over a fox mustang? Would you? Parts of me tingle with notions of a supercoupe 3.8sc motor. Oh it would sleep all over your boulevard drags...

*sigh* dreams...

I'd always take a Mercury over a Ford.

Why do I feel Mercury could have contested this as a legitimate US fastback against the likes of the OG 240Z? #inb4 rust problems and poor management decisions.

I think they did. This was the only coupe compact in the 70's they had to offer. Ford had the Mustang. this was the Malaise days and Japan had a leg up. America had only developed big muscle cars because of open highways and stop light drag culture. the rest of the world had(has) narrow twisty streets from their thousand years of travel before cars. Result was american cars were big and not good against anything else imported. GM imported the Opel GT as an opel, Ford got the Capri as a Mercury, Dodge got the Mitsubishi Lancer A40 as a Dodge Arrow.

That's the 70's remodernization program until we got the Fox body mustang /chevy ?/ front drive dodge charger hatch coupe L-body. Chevrolet only had front drive somethings....cavalier...chevette perhaps worked?
