Which car for a track day - BRZ/FR-S or CTS Vsport?

Which would you take to a road course track day, either a FR-S manual or a CTS Vsport? Both completely stock. The Vsport would certainly be faster, but not sure it would be more fun. It has a track mode for the trans and suspension, competitive driving mode for traction control, sticky Pzero tires, and two turbos for 420HP. But it is still an auto and about 3800lb sedan. The FR-S has, well, 1000 less pounds and is a manual, which should be more fun. I've heard that the stock FR-S brakes are marginal for a track day though. Yes, I could swap them, but I'm just looking to do one track day and don't want to fuss with changes on either car. I've gone back and forth on this one - can't decide. Help me Opponuts!

Was at track days with several stock FR-S/BRZs, can confirm.

I'm sure a heavy sedan would have weak (poor endurance) brakes as well. Brakes for a track day car are one of the first things to upgrade.

DOT 4 fluid and some more aggressive pads at the most.

True, but the Vsport has big Brembos up front and is reported to do relatively well on track. I don't intend to be at 10/10ths, just looking to have fun. I'm thinking the FR-S might be more fun, but the Vsport can really hustle and I'm curious how it does on track too.

CTS Vsport. There is something naughty about pounding on a luxury car especially when it isn't yours.

If you'll be doing just one or two track days per year, go with the caddy as it'll be the nicer DD.

if it'll be a regular thing, go with the toyobaru. You'll spend less on consummables (brakes, tires).

That worries me a bit. I could slow it down to take it easy on the brakes, but then that's not very much fun and I'd wish I had taken the other car!

I have both cars now. Just trying to decide which car would be more fun for a track day. I've done many track days, but not in either of these cars. The Caddy is my primary DD.

Trust me when I say if you try to take it easy on your brakes instead of having fun, it's going to ruin your day.

I think you just gave me the answer! Vsport will be at the track, flappy paddles and all! Maybe I can chase down some German machinery...

Yeah you'll probably have a bunch of fun. And you'll get a lot of attention because big Cadillac sedan being tracked like a boss.

FRS. Two reasons: manual transmission/tossability for fun and natural aspiration for endurance. Plus, progressive torque curve.

Neither....corvette is the obvious choice.

CTS V will eat through consumables a lot faster. Fuel, brake pads, rotors, tires.

Are you a seasoned track rat? If not, you're unlikely to hit the performance wall of either car.

Update: the CTS Vsport rocked on the track. Seriously, I was impressed. The only weak spot was a little fade from the brakes. That is not unexpected, considering they are stock street pads. Otherwise the car was flawless and unflappable through 100+ miles of track laps. The car never pushed, and always felt neutral to a little oversteer with power. The e-diff is some kind of black magic, that I learned to use with time - just feed it power and let the rear slide a little and then zip you just shoot out of the turn.

The big Cadillac intimidated on the track! It was neck and neck with some C5 Z06s on the straights and I could crowd some spec-Miatas through the tuns (on exit anyway). I was very impressed with the car and can't wait until the real CTS-V and ATS-V come out. It is a stellar chassis!
