Virginia has antique vehicle plates? And a C4 qualifies? Damn I must be getting old.

Yup, 25 years. We're close to putting them on 1990 y/m cars.

The perspective there is killing me. Is the C5 really that much bigger?

Wisconsin is only 20. In the past month I've seen two Miatas and a Roadmaster wagon with them.

It really is a good deal bigger, although I'm pulled up a bit further. The C4 is low and long with a tapering rear, so it looks especially small from this view.

The C5 is actually wider than the C6

I still can't say the C4 is objectively "good looking" to my eyes, but damn if it doesn't look more and more awesome to me every time I see one.

Yeah, the production C4 turned 30 last year and requirement is 25!

Seems like I read in some Corvette magazine years ago that insurance companies set the "collector car" mark at 35 years. Texas' antique cut off is 25 years but they must be used strictly for antique exhibitions, parades, and related activities. There's a classic plate with the same cut off but use is more flexible.

Dang! Last time I was in a C6 i was thinking "wow, i had no idea these things would feel so wide."

The Japanese supercars will soon be antiques! Same goes for the last "real" Lamborghini and last overbuilt MBs!

With Wisconsin it's called a "Collector" plate, and it has the restriction that you can't drive it in January at all.
There's also a "Hobbyist" version for custom or modified cars.

Just January? In Wisconsin? I figured it'd be more like October-March... haha

I've driven both. I read that the C5 is wider this morning and I was like "REALLY?!", because I thought the C6 felt wider.

I totally ignore antique plate rules. There's no way to prove any misuse on my part. But I do have Hagerty, they'll even insure a '96!

Yes! I wish everyone at least acknowledged the awesome factor ;)
But, yeah, I kind of like to think of mine as the poor man's viper. For $5k, you have the reliability of a Camry, the torque to roast your rear tires any time, the handling to put a contemporary 911 to shame, a really input-heavy transmission, and character to boot.

Yeah, the front overhang is just a bit too long for me to really consider it beautiful, but it totally kicks ass (and its not like its ugly, its still better looking than most cars on the road.)
It's an actual hard core sports car that's affordable and reliable. Pure 2 seaters that are built first to go fast and second for...everything else are really relatively rare.

I just take issue with calling a car that's newer than I am an antique.

I definitely know what you mean. When it's parked on an incline and you see the front spoiler is looks really menacing, but the front bumper doesn't help the styling. The design is functional, though, so I'm glad it's like that. The door is so long, though... An asshat parker will really make getting in a struggle.

All it really means is that you're older than a Lamborghini Diablo, though! That's not very old sounding.

I'm also older than the Nintendo 64... do kids these days even know how ground-breaking that machine was?

The C4 really is a small car, especially next to newer cars. I still can't get over how small it looks next to my mom's 2015 Mazda6 or even my G35. The C5 also happened to have a giant rear end, one of the reasons it's one of my least favorite Corvettes.

Concave and convex rear ends...I wonder if they backed into eachother if they'd leave a mark....

25 years from now: There was a time...
When you had to go to a room to stare at a screen with your mouth hanging open! Back in those days, a company called Nintendo from the now uninhabited land of Japan made devices just for playing games! And while you may not even understand how it works so poorly, there was something called paper Mario that LITERALLY (by this time literally will mean the same thing as figuratively) blew people's minds because it was like being an actual piece of paper in a detailed, happy world. It was made for the Nintendo 64, which had a name representing the impressive hardware feat it accomplished.

I tested it. Damage was very minimal but the owner was still kinda angry.

hahah, yeah i feel your pain with the long doors.
I think the C4 looks best from the back or from a rear 3/4 view. Despite the long front overhang, its otherwise actually a very clean design. But between the lowness and the fat rear tires, there's a a lot of aggression there if you care to look for it.
I'm 32, so i saw a lot of C4s in my youth and due to them building it forever, i kind of got bored/soured on the way they look. Now that they're a little rarer though, i cant help but come around on them in a pretty big way. Thanks for posting the pics!

The older i get, the more I feel like cars are too big these days. I have a 350Z (which is obviously roughly G35 sized) and I remember the first time I parked next to a Challenger, i was like "HORY SHEET!" (i'm Asian.)
Sometimes you don't realize there's a size disparity until you see two cars parked right next to each other, like in the OP's photo.

It's bigger, but the perspective is helping out a bit. It's backed out about a foot and a half or so more than the C4.

It's more Halloween to Easter. The no-January restriction is so you can't put those plates on your daily driver.
