RANTOUL — A Florida woman who allegedly stole a running ambulance from a hospital in a northwest Chicago suburb made it to Champaign County in about two hours Friday before being arrested.
"She said she was trying to get to Marion. She said she had thought it was an emergency because she was having pain, saw the ambulance and decided to take it," said Rantoul police Sgt. Justin Bouse.
Samantha Sligar, 27, who told authorities she is from Jacksonville, Fla., was arrested about 6:15 a.m. by Rantoul police, who stopped the Arlington Heights Fire Department ambulance with "stop sticks."
