"Battery" light lit up last night on my '02 Beetle's dashboard...only a couple of miles from home at least. Don't reckon I can complain much...it's the original alternator which is what I presume has gone kaput, albeit after 51,000 miles (yes, on an '02). If I recall I can barely SEE the alternator on this car (1.8 turbo) so it's off to the shop later this week. *grumble*

1.8t with a stick I presume? Because those are a lot of fun.

The one I drove was a Gecko convertible. As a convertible, so much outside color inside.

If you remove the wheel and wheel well, can you get to the alternator?

I've replaced multiple batteries and alternators and trouble shot a few ground strap problems and cable/terminal problems. The one thing that shines in all that experience? There are fucking *rules* I could program into the most stupid processor (which all the cars have) to figure out what's wrong. Amperage on a battery not generating enough? Alternator producing correct voltage but battery not holding it? The list is endless, but mindlessly simple.

And the cost per car? Now a days, maybe what, $8? Pisses me off. It's like watching the Shuttle do it's shit with three 1982 IBM XT equivalents for flight computers. Argh.
