Driving into work this am, leaving my neighborhood I pass a fire station, as I approach this station, I see the signal light turn to flashing red (meaning a truck is leaving the station). I slow down, truck starts to pull out, lights flashing, siren blaring.
The jackass behind me decides hes in too much of a rush to wait for the fire truck. He pulls into the breakdown lane, passes me on my right, and then cuts left around the fire truck...
THEN, the guy who was behind him begins to follow suit.
I'm fightin mad at this point (I have a lot of friends whom are first responders and this ass hattery is just unacceptable). Yelling in my car "What the fuck is wrong with you fucking idiots!!! expletive expletive expletive."
So now genius #2 is next to me, the truck is now fully in the road and beginning to accelerate away from us. Well this guy speeds up, and starts driving next to the truck, in the break down lane.
For fucks sake.

It is precisely those situations that make me want a dashcam. Upload evidence to Youtube, email link to local Police.

That is a punishable offense, I've called the cops on a guy who was recklessly following a fire truck since all the lights turn green for it. Sure enough he got busted and I was given a call back to let me know he got a fat fine and car impounded. That kind of asshatery is honestly above what I consider "not too bad".

I constantly find myself the only one moving over/stopping for emergency vehicles. I really hope that when these assholes' houses are burning down, the firetrucks can't make it there in time. They are truly the lowest form of human scum.

Had GF once who lived down the street from a fire station. We were out walking one day and got to watch a perfect example of comeuppance for one of these kind of assholes. Red lights stopped traffic & door was rising on fire station when a guy up the row pulled into the breakdown lane and passed the line of stopped cars. Just as he got to the head of the line and was passing in front of the fire station entrance the engine rocketed out, t-boned him, and shoved him across the street and into the lawn of the house opposite.
The fire engine then backed up, turned up the street and headed off to the fire, leaving this guy in his destroyed car to sit there and wait for the police to show up and ticket him for failure to obey a signal & failure to yield to an emergency vehicle(I know because we hung around to give witness statements to the cops).

I agree, but I was mostly in awe due to the fact that not one, but two blatant idiots were doing this. I think the trucks have onboard camera systems now so the 1st guy will hopefully get a visit from local PD, but unfortunately, out here, I see way too much ignorance to emergency vehicles. People fail to move right, Freeze in the lane even when the truck is directly behind them laying on the horn, running lights to try and beat the vehicle... It's insane, and stupid.

i saw something like that happen the other day. i dunno if she was just (super) oblivious or what but I passed a station as the doors were opening and watch my rear view mirror to see if they were going to head in my direction. the lady just continued on with no shits given and cut the truck off as it was pulling out.

Out here I see 2 polar opposites. 1. is the person who pulls over and stops way to pre-maturely and way to long (ambulance coming 1/2 mile away, pulls over, stops, ambulance turns off road, never passing or coming near stopped car, guy still sits there). 2. The guy who never moves (Oh what, you think your a big tough ambulance guy with your flashing lights and your loud horns, well Ill tell you, I gotta get home and watch my favorite TV show so there ain't no way you gettin' in front of me!)

I HATE this. I once saw a guy with an ambulance riding his ass with sirens blazing, he did not do a thing. There was much of the same yelling of expletives from inside my car.

I didn't even have to go to court. Had a 3rd party witness whom actually stopped and backed my side of the story, cops ticketed him for reckless driving, driving to endanger, and impounded his car. Jeep only had a small mark on the front bumper so I wasn't concerned (his car was fucked up). Then he tried going after my insurance, so I sent them the police report, counter claimed, on his insurance, made them replace the whole bumper, and pay for the rental and all that too.

A coworker of mine is the fire chief for my town. He has the ability to write tickets for asshattery. And hes done it before. Don't fuck with first responders.

Holy crap. We have our share of stupid stuff around here, but I've never seen anything that bad with the first responder yield thing (I hear it's a bit worse in Denver, bigger city traffic and all). Occasionally I see some folks who were too oblivious and should've gotten out of the way sooner, but trying to *pass* the truck? WTF? Did they see the flashing lights and think "Tree! I can totally take a big heavy truck!"

Something similar happened to me but with an ambulance driving by.
After the ambulance was long gone I sped up to the douchebag and cut him of and drove slowly in front of him.
I'm not saying this is right or that you guys should agree with me but if felt like the right thing to do at the time. It just really ticks me off.
