"Steve in Manhattan" (blogenfreude01)

Wrote this post at another blog a while back. My interest in the Royal Wedding ™ Diamond Jubilee ™ was limited, so of course I wanted a car or cooking angle. Elizabeth II rides around in a heavily-modified Bentley, the donor chassis probably related to a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . HRH likes a royal purple exterior and cloth seats, so that's what the car has. Note also the high roofline and large windows - the Queen is an expensive indulgence, so the Brits should be able to see her as she passes by. More on the car !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

They don't seem quite as concerned about RPGs and IEDs as the Americans are. Just look at the size of that door.

Indeed. And I can't remember whether Cadillac 1 is on a Tahoe platform, Suburban ... what? Have to Google.

Wikipedia: The body itself seems to be a modification of the immediately previous DTS-badged Presidential limousines, but the vehicle's chassis and driveline are sourced from the Chevrolet Kodiak commercial truck. [2] [3]

The colour is two tone claret base with black top. Body and glass are armoured. It may not look much but both marked and unmarked police and protection officers and vehicles are always very close by. Security sweeps areas she visits a week in advance and maintains the area till after Her Majesty has been through. The Bentley as with all before are given as a gift to Her Majesty from the manufacturer.
Her Majesty is not by any means an expensive indulgence and actually costs less that £1 per man, woman and child a year. Her Majesty pays taxes, she does not have to but does so off her own back.
There will always be people who resent her, her position and her family but Her Majesty does not do a nine to five job. She does her job from the time she wakes to the time she goes to sleep and has done from birth.
I love my queen I am and forever shall remain her humble servant.
God save The Queen, long may she reign over us.

If cloth interior is good enough for the Queen it's good enough for me...

I've assumed that the Queen brings in more than she costs - when we were in London a few years ago the GF insisted on Buckingham and The Tower/Crown Jewels, which cost money.

My '97 SHO was one of the very few with a cloth interior. So much better in hot weather.

Her Majesty brings in vast amounts from not just tourism but investments into the country.

What with Zadok the priest, Pomp and circumstance, Nimrod, God save the Queen (in full of course), Rule Britannia, Jerusalem, Land of hope and glory, etc... ?
Sounds good to me.

Actually, the taxpayer makes a massive profit off the Crown Estates. Land and assets that legally belong to the Queen as her personal property, but the earnings from which are traded to the government in exchange for an annual salary and expenses. The deal made a lot more since when George III was broke and his properties weren't earning much, but they've been managed very well over the centuries, however each monarch has opted to renew the arrangement.

The bacon 'buttie' the quickest and tastiest breakfast or snack ever.
The Lake District is a few miles down the road where I live in Cumbria.
You forgot:
The Cumberland Sausage.
The Yorkshire Pudding for the sunday roast (or any day really as they are amazing).
HP (Houses of Parliament) Brown Sauce (no bacon buttie should be without).
Not to mention the full English breakfast.
(Fried pork sausages, fried eggs, fried tomatoes, fried bacon, fried mushrooms, fried black pudding, fried toast and beans (best fried, chop small a couple of bacon rashers and fry off, add the baked beans and reduce heat, add a touch of black pepper and serve) with some regular toast to mop the juices of the eggs, beans and sausage fat or just eat with jam.
