Was handed down a one year old laptop to sell for a family member. No big deal. Battery is fried. Ok, replacement part is $13 on Amazon. Do a factory wipe. Ok. 111 critical updates, 6 optional. Ok.... Load them up. 2 hours later, restart....

"failure configuring windows updates. Reverting your system, do not turn off"

The system has been reverting for 9 hours now.

I've had that happen. I forced it down, waited a few and powered it back on. Came up just fine

Windows 8 has some update probs

I have learned to steer clear of optional updates until the critical ones are downloaded and working properly. Then I will go back for the optional ones after creating a restore point.

1 year and battery is fried? Typical Windows laptops.

Time to flip the bios to legacy mode and install a copy of Windows 7

Better off to just wipe the hard drive and restore if there is a factory restore partition.

Restore

Use a good program like "eraser" to wipe free space after the restore.

Sell with peace of mind.

Profit!

Now you know why my gaming desktop is Windows 7 after trying to install 8. Would run updates, would reboot, got that message, reverted, it immediately attempted to update again. Endless loop.

Really? That's a problem I've repeatedly seen (and had) that problem with Apple laptops.

Mine lasted 4 years …. I'm about that full charge & full drain life. Do you know how many cycle counts you had?

I've got friends that still own the Black Macbooks before they went unibody on their first batteries. I've never seen this issue with Macs but on the contrary the 2 windows laptops we owned (both Lenovos) had to have their batteries replaced before the 2 year mark.

Guess it's just dependent on the person, but my experiences in Apple land have been less-than-great. Lenovos have a pretty bad reputation for battery quality, to be fair, and there's a big difference between a sub-$750 laptop and a $2000 one regardless of software platform.

These were on previous computers, so I don't honestly remember.

I had to put up with my desktop doing that for a week.

I shouldn't generalize because you are right the more expensive Windows Laptops (like Vaios) have always been good quality. I didn't know Lenovo was known for that but I've definitely experienced it.
