Other than no one being hurt, there's not much good to say about this one. Curious that a facility that rents space and does restoration didn't have at least some sort of basic fire suppression. On the other hand, rural side businesses here often skirt some best practices.

Saw it in the paper this morning. Very sad. curious how it started at the mobile home nearby. Probably a propane tank or something.

That'll be a fun insurance debacle. The car owners insurance will want the storage owner to pay out and I'm betting, based on lack of fire suppression, his insurance on the barn won't cover the value.

The guy that lost all the Cadillacs sure took it well.

Isn't that the truth. A field day of liability assignment. Wonder who will be left holding the bag when the music stops.

Yeah, I'd like to see more about that, too. The witness said he heard an explosion in conjunction with the mobile home fire. Not sure if the fire cooked off a tank or line, or if there was a gas problem to begin with, sparked by something else? Wonder if that'll get linked in to the insurance/liability debate, too (i.e. maybe some one screwed up a gas install, and the whole deal falls to them?).

I was also surprised by his even-keeled approach. Wonder what else he's seen/been through in his life that at this point the loss of 33 beloved collector Caddillacs is "Well, that sucks, but we'll get back at shortly."

Oh that sucks! I know there are some barn owners near me who do winter classic car storage. I doubt they have fire suppression either, and some really nice cars inside. I'm told they are insured, but who knows to what extent...

Yeah, it's when a loss occurs that you really find out what the insurance is worth, right? It's interesting how that can go down. I had an interesting conversation with a normally very good vendor a few years ago over a loss covered under homeowner's. They came around, but it took a firmly worded response. I suspect it was under the profit maximizing approach of "deny every claim at first, and then see what happens".
