Quick off-topic question: Is there a Kinja blog or other good resource for headphones or audio in general? I want new headphones for when I start my new job in 2 weeks, and don't know where to start.

I have been using Sony MDR-X200 around-ear headphones for years and they're pretty good - especially for the price - but I want to treat myself to something just a bit better. My only requirements: around ear (this is not negociable) and under $150.

Thanks!

I asked this question a little while ago and got a lot of responses actually. I ended up with AKG K 142 HDs for like 70 some bucks and they've worked great for I guess a year now ( that post was from last october).

Lots of good info here - http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/any-audiophile…

Have you looked at Shure? Their SE-215's are most comfortable when worn behind the ear, and they stay in place very well. I've had Shure headphones for close to 10 years now, and they have always been great on sound, and the design passively blocks out ambient noise very well.

Can't go wrong with the Audio Technica ath-m50. Good sound and good price. Usually considered on of the best "cheap" headphone by audiophiles.

Thanks, I'll take a look through the responses.

Those look like on-ear models, unless I'm mistaken? I really can't handle having something on my ear for hours at a time, it has to be around-ear.

I hadn't even considered noise-cancelling headphones, though - not a bad idea.

Grado SR-125's are at the top end of your price range. The SR-80's and -60's are also great in their price ranges.
