Has anyone here gone to North Dakota State or have anything to tell me? I'm kinda considering that or University of Minnesota TC. Any kind of help would be appreciated.

SUNY ALBANY
not because it's a particularly good school (it's okay I guess, nothing special)
but because there's no other oppos here.

It's a SUNY school so I know how they are, lots of family has gone to them. I'm mainly looking to get out of NY, but more importantly Engineering?

You live in the boring part of NY, that's why you want to get out.
Go to NYU!
You'll never want to leave the city then.

I want to leave the city after a week, as much as I love it. Also I live in the best part of NY, I just want to live somewhere else for a few years, plus I've got family near ND.

Both schools are excellent. I am from the Twin Cities area and have many fiends who went to UMN-TC. What kind of engineering? Civil, electrical, mechanical? UND is great to. Coming from NY, just be prepared for this thing we call winter. Last year was the coldest I can remember.

Mechanical, we do get pretty cold winters too. I'm not from the City. We got around 130 inches of snow where I live last year. Only difference is you're colder on average, we average around 24.3 because of Lake Ontario.

You just need to know what's in the area you grow up in to know how fun it is. You grew up in Orange County so you don't know what Upstates like. Yeah you're not an Upstater.

OC4LIFE
I know where everything is now in the state pretty much. (the only things that interest me, anyway)(read: motorsports)

See you're missing all the other stuff that's good about our state, so many nice parks. Take the St. Lawrence Seaway and see me sometime, it'll go right through were I live, Adirondacks are amazing.

But the thing is, honestly, I don't really care about parks. (unless they have amazing driving roads)
but I do care about WATKINS GLEN

In that case I would recommend UMN-Mankato, considered one of the best mechanical engineering schools in the area.

Put a negative in front of that and you'll get the lowest you'll likely see in the TC. Avg. is in the teens, but it doesn't matter because it feels fuckin cold regardless.

Both schools are top notch. U of M is probably a bit better, but I wouldn't scoff at NDSU. It really depends on what you are going for. NDSU would probably be cheaper, but a science based degree might carry more weight from the U of M. Also the U of M is in the heart of the Twin Cities with EVERYTHING. Can't go wrong with either. It's up to you.

Both have Mech Engineering, NDSU is cheaper, Fargo is closer to family than the Cities are. Cities are a few hours and Fargo is roughly 45 minutes from Detroit Lakes. BUT and to me this is a pretty big but, the Minnesota Wild and the Twins are in the Cities. Cost will likely be more of a factor when it comes down to my decision.

To make things worse you're coming from out of state for both. That makes it quite expensive.

NDSU is like $6k cheaper. I asked my mom if she wanted to move to Minnesota and she said No really fast, mainly because where she works is only in our area.

Most likely when you get done with school you'll probably want to stay in this part of the country.

Most of what I want to do for a career isn't in NY anyway, but we'll see what happens.
