Tamiya paints. You can either airbrush their acrylics if you thin them, or you can just use their spray cans, which are lacquers and are awesome. I'm the most impatient man in the world, and I can't wait around a day for a coat of Testors enamel to dry...Tamiya lacquers are good to go (albeit not fully cured) in a few hours.
For glue, superglue is actually a good choice, just not for clear or painted pieces...so if you have an assembly to do (say an engine block), put it together with superglue (or CA glue, at your local hobby shop...Zap is a good brand), let it dry, then paint the whole thing as one. If you do use CA, leave whatever you just glued out in the open, since the fumes can form a haze on the surface of paint or even plain plastic.
I've never built anything by Aoshima, so I couldn't tell you how they go together...Tamiya kits you basically just open the box, throw a tube of glue and some paint in there, shake it up, and it comes out perfect.

Hobbylink Japan doesn't have it anymore, as I was probably in the last batch of kits. http://store.speedhunters.com/us/shop/speedh… SpeedHunters has it in stock though.

I'll probably use superglue for some of it, but not all. I'll see how much the paint will cost...

The lacquers run about $6 a can, same for primer. You'll be able to do the whole car with one can, assuming that's a 1/24. Oh, and paint the inside of the body first. Light coats.

I'm worried mostly about the prices of the "small things" like the colors for the pedals, the occasional blue, like that.

The bottles of Testors enamel are probably the best thing for that...they run about $2 each, or they sell kits at a discount.
