Is there a greater confluence of arbitrariness, pride, and butthurt than preferred systems of measurement?

I feel it happens everywhere. "Muh way of counting is so much better than your way of counting the same thing. Muh units!"

If someone introduces a third system, it will cause World War III.

Sports have a measurable impact on a local economy however.

It really does need to change though. The metric system is so much simpler once you learn it, no weird fractions and other BS. It's also convenient when you go literally anywhere else that you understand what the signs mean (it says 17 km so whats that, like 17 miles? - no more like 70 I think. - Not huh, its only 7 miles). Plus, The immediate change in this country would reduce the number of speeders (well not that I can go 100 I don't feel the need to speed as much...). We can just ignore the fact that 100km/h is actually 62.something mph so your actually going slower...

...

Given the specific signage you are posting about. We (I'm a second generation Tucsonan) get a huge influx of money spent here from a large region of Mexico (primarily Sonora), so having signage which is familiar to them has made sense for a very long time to encourage them to come here. I'm pretty certain it's measurable (as a positive, as opposed to, say, building a stadium).

Paper sizes are another source of endless and amusing conflict.

Was watching a Swedish TV programme tonight and it mentioned in the subtitles a distance of 30 km. Interestingly the original dialogue said tre mil which is literally three miles (the Swedes have a mile of 10km).

[The following statement will assume any of this matters; it does not]

Metric uses base 10, and base 10 is one of humanities greatest mistake. 10 is only divisible by 2 and 5.

Now consider base 12. 12 is divisible by 2, 3, 4, and 6. That's twice as many stupidly simple calculations.

Replacing all the signs with signs of the same units would achieve the same results.

All joking aside though. Does it really matter, both work just fine. And NASA for the most part uses metric too. Some industries use both depending on the application..

But... They are from Mexico, we can't expect them to just understand our system unless we yell at them. HOW CAN WE YELL LOUDER WITH SIGNS?

(I feel sad for just typing this, but this is pure sarcasm, if you take this seriously then you need to have a long deep conversation with yourself and then see your therapist).

Also, go to Wales... I think that the sign company had a clearance or buy one get three l's and a y free type sale.

Preferring to use US customary units is a confluence of arbitrariness, pride, and butthurt. Preferring to use SI (and by extension the metric system) is a logical progression toward global standardization of a superior unit system.

Then we can finally get rid of the unit "tons" forever. Good riddance.

Do you know why sheepheards usually only have one heading dog? It's because the sheep all just fall in line and follow one another blindly.

Ever watch people in a major city...

Kinja'd!!! CAR_IS_MI > For Sweden

Kinja'd!!!0

Lol. Well if you were to ever seriously sit and watch people in a major city for an extended period of time, you will see one person make a mistake, enter a no entry or drive the wrong way down a one way street. Forget where they are going, walk into something, spend 5 minutes pushing on a pull door, never thinking to read those 4 letters that say pull... Okay, stuff happens, were not perfect, no quarrels there. But the thing is, it's never just one person. The guy behind him aimlessly follows, ignoring the one way sign, or assisting him in pushing on the pull door. like sheep do, many bipedals just follow blindly. so the combination of sheep and people becomes an accurate descriptive term.

The Arabic numbering system (that basically the entire world uses) is based on having 10 values per digit. Each digit represents a different order of magnitude. If you were to use a different base from 10, then it complicates it because numbers don't scale easily.

That's only because we've used base 10 for so long. If someone taught you to use base 12 as a child, you would have zero issues.

It would be far easier to justify if we had 12 fingers.

Wait, that's the dominant allele and everyone has the recessive 10 finger allele. At least that's what was told in bio class.
