Why is it so hard to find a nice first gen Subaru Impreza in my area? Seriously? I live in the perfect area for Subaru's but I can't seem to find any nice first gens.. I'm sad about this..

Me too. So does the Evo.
I guess the only way to get the nice Subie is from the dealership.

My family has a 2012 Impreza but I'm looking for my first car and I'd love a first gen, but I can't find any. It's really disappointing.

What's your area? A buddy of mine works for a dealer with a Subaru store, they're always taking stuff in.

I don't think Ive ever seen a Subaru over 5 years old without rust in upstate NY, salt use around me is appalling

It took me 15 years to find a suitable MN12 Super Coupe project car. It was a lazy search though.
Trunk Impaired 318 seems to have hit the nail on the head.

I've lived here my whole life.. I think we both know how terrible it is. Except Oswego County uses sand instead of salt.

No.
If you want to experience real sadness (to the point of crippling depression) try finding a decent condition non-riced, non-project car 240sx. The 15k shitty drift missile-to-normal-car ratio there is getting reeeeal thin...

Just go find a race car version and start doing some vintage racing. Although I do wish you luck.

Cargill salt is literally 5 minutes away from me so every county within an hour or so gets rock salt for next to nothing so its used very liberally

What body style are you looking for (sedan, coupe, wagon)? Also, if you're looking at wagons, are you including the Outback Sport as well?

I love the area. Go to races every year. I've been between Syracuse and Oswego my whole life.

A 2.5RS will probably be a bit difficult to find, as only ~14,000 were made from 1998 to 2001, and it seems like most were used hard and put away wet, so to speak...
When you say sedan, do you mean a sedan 2.5RS, or an L sedan (the L was the base model Impreza)? I'm not quite sure from your post.

A friend of mine bought both a 92' and 95' impreza wagon for $500 each. One was in poor condition (the '92 1.8) and needed an alternator so he repaired it (with the help of me) and flipped it. The other one was a 95' 2.2 that was in absolute mint condition other than the fact that the crank pulley bolt snapped and it needed to be replaced. $100 later he had a perfect and mint 2.2 wagon that runs and drives great.
tl;dr: You need to go cheaper on your choices with subarus, and buy off of dieing old folks.

Yeah, but you haven't expierenced anything until you get Lake effect snow, that shit's terrible. Coupled with -25* wind chill you don't want to know what the snowbelt is like.
