735i, which means it was one of the US BMWS with the rare M90 engine. That is all. No SR20, but have a wallpaper.
EDIT: Or some kind of engine. Wikipedia is being weird. Still, I choose to live in a reality where it had an Ex-M1 engine, so there!

I was confused on the wiki page for the M88, which said that the 735i came with the M90 (along with the 635CSi). But the 735i page itself says that it came with the M30. Strange. Whomever wrote the E23 article must have been european and didn't mention the engine change.

yeah I didn't even go there, knowing all US imports were M30. Offroadkarter has a 745 though which is a rare bird. Driven like 3 of them though so not TOO rare

BMW South Africa built an "M7" with the M88 in it:

Some googling got me some discrepancies on the nomenclature of the E23's 735i. Because the engine in the E23 735, E28 535i, E24 635i was mostly an upgraded M88 some places name it the M90. But others just call it the M88/3 when they're being specific. Because most of the time everyone just says M88.
Let google decide!
M88/3: About 36,900,000 results (0.40 seconds)
M90: About 4,570,000 results (0.40 seconds)
We have a winner!
