Too bad about the Corvette, though...
Dodge Viper = New soon-to-be-dead American icon.

(Sigh)
I'd buy a viper if I could afford it.
They could offer a lower priced viper with a V8 and it would be amazing.

Seriously. I love the Viper so much. It's so ridiculous and so pointless, so insane and badass, in a time when people take shit so seriously that I'm going to be a bit emotional when it dies its inevitable death.

It is an incredible machine. It is the definition of the classic performance car and we might never see it again in a modern car.
Big engine, two seater, big rubber, stiff suspension, manual, rwd. Why don't people buy more of them?

Same reasons no one bought manual Ferraris, asked for turbocharged BMWs, and don't give the time of day to Lotuses; there's really a decline in the number of passionate car buyers. The Viper isn't about status or ease of use or flashiness or exclusivity, but that's what most people are after...

So unfortunate.
I drove a red 03 convertible viper a year or two ago.
The power is intoxicating and the engine sounds like nothing else.
The suspension is really hard, the shifter throws are really short, and you have to manhandle it into gear.
Nothing short of amazing. You can't compare to anything else, except for maybe the Cobra.
I went to autocross in a 2009 Corvette, while it was firm it felt nothing like the Viper. Nowhere near as raw.

Wow, that sounds awesome. There's going to be a complete void left of cars that need to be tamed, seeing as so many new cars play the exact opposite role. I love having a 4 speed with long, heavy throws and an engine that (compared to a modern one) you have to completely let loose on to get it to register your inputs with any accuracy for that reason, and I'm not driving anything near as raw or purposeful as a viper. Having a car that you have to work with to drive quickly is so much more rewarding than most of what's offered today, with the exception being critically endangered.

If you ever get the chance, drive one.
It will become a car that you continually compare others to.

Dare I say Corvette is the last great sports car? Looks great, lots of horses, and it's (for now) relatively affordable. It's not a lifestyle. Its a car.

Because it isn't a very good car. Yes, it delivers more power per dollar than anything else you can buy for the same price, but every single one of its competitors beats it when it comes to refinement, and anyone considering the purchase of a 6-figure sports car is going to want some of that to go with all that power.

Refinement isn't the point of something with a massive v10 and a rock hard suspension. It's supposed to scare the shit out of you.

Yes, and I'm sure it does a fantastic job of it, but what's the point if no one's buying them? If Dodge were an electronics company, and still sold a fantastic, bare-bones PDA that wasn't also a smartphone, would you be at all surprised when they pulled it from the shelves due to poor sales? I'm well aware that refinement isn't the point of a Viper, but it's what people who buy expensive cars want. A 911, Jag, ZR1 or R8 may not be as fast or raw or scary, but none of them are slow, and all of them can be used for something other than track days and making your passengers soil themselves.

I'd buy one if I could afford it. They need to expand its position in the market some with a V8 model at the bottom and a supercharged v10 at the top.
A long options list on a car with a good base price will always sell well.

You'd buy one if you could afford it, but you can't afford it because you aren't currently having a midlife crisis. When you do get to that stage, you won't want one; you'll want something a bit softer, like a Corvette. Even if you do think you want one, you won't be able to take it for a test drive, because the Dodge dealer network has no idea of how to cater to a wealthy client. You will be able to take that Vette or a Porsche for a spin, which will help you realize that you don't really want something with a bone-crushing ride quality and poor noise insulation.

I test drove an 03 and I liked it. I went to autocross in a 09 Corvette and I liked the Viper better based off the short time I was with both of them.
