On the cheap, too. $7,000, but in need of a rebuild. I'm passing on it, but somebody less busy than I could make a profit on it.

I'm sure a soldier on Ft. Riley or Leavenworth will buy this up.

Even if you paid someone else to do the rebuild, you could make a healthy profit off of it.
Or just have the time of your life and drive it.

Rebuilding a twin-turbo rotary car?
I value my sanity too much.

Why would you get X reliable car when you can get Y unreliable car for the same price?!?!??!

"Why get a 2003 Honda Civic automatic when you can get an abused, non running, insanely complicated and unreliable 90s Mazda coupe for the same price?"

What you see is an rx7 ready for a rebuild. What I see is an rx7 that's a prime example for an ls swap.

Yeah, the rebuild kit is $1400 and a lot of aggravation.
Personally, I don't like rotaries. I don't think they work on the street. I could buy it and rebuilt, but no way in hell would I drive it hard or autocross. The constant threat of blowing a seal and having to rebuild the motor would be looming over me.

Yeah that's sketchy. I'd just sell it for money.

Pretty much. I don't really care for his flips. They barely make any money. Mostly, cause I'm a jerk and think he gets too much praise for his work. I understand that it's neat that he buys mostly enthusiast cars, has his fun, and makes a little money, but the amount of profit isn't worth it to me. If I have to tear apart a rotary, I'd want to be at least doubling the price.
Also, you're right. To those who can do a lot of wrenching, this deal makes sense, but making posts like those that everybody reads, especially younger guys that might make impulsive decisions, it's a bit deceptive. I'd never recommend something like this to somebody unless I knew they were an experienced mechanic. Because the thing with these "needs a little work cars" is that there's always a couple things they leave out, which you find out after buying the car. For those who have to pay a shop, those fees can add up quickly, and to those with less money, it can fuck up your life.
I wouldn't be opposed to buying this, but I've found a couple other deals that are more lucrative.

It's also a RWD sports car, which means you basically have to store it through the winter and try selling in spring.
As much as it blows, I've stopped looking for any RWD cars to flip. I'm waiting til about Dec/Jan to buy one on the cheap and sell in spring.
However, I'm really looking forward to all the cheap C5's and M3's come December. Maybe even another S2000.

Already looked into it. LS Swap is about 4-5 times more expensive than just rebuilding what's there.

Lol no they're not. I've still got mine. Even at $11,500, it's been getting very little action.
Although, someone e-mailed about flying from NY to KS and driving it back. I figured it was you.

You're probably right. Some of those guys buy the most ridiculously hopeless cars.
Lexus SC400: Blown Head gaskets.
E39 M5: Has VANOS problems.
Mitsu 3000GT VR4- Has electrical problems.
And that's just a brief Craigslist search.

On that topic, I had a friend looking for a reliable daily driver under $10k. She showed me an ad for a 2002 S class. Non car people just don't get it.

It's getting towards the fall/winter, so it's not too surprising. If I have to, I'll store it through the winter and raise the price in the spring. I'm not too worried.
In the meantime, it's just been sitting in my parents garaged. I don't like driving it to campus, cause it'll just get dented. I drive my bitchin' 97 Saturn SL2 instead.
Basically, I've just been driving the Honda to car shows and autocross.

Well there's quite a bit you have to know to know to run away from that.
In kind of a blanket approach, whenever any non-car-person asks me car buying advice, I just say Mazda 3. I had one, you can't really go wrong with them.

Lulz I'm not a good enough driver for the car. It keeps lift-off oversteering on me. But, I'm 100% sure it's not the car's fault; it's me. It's quite unforgiving.

I really want to try it in a WRX or Subaru product. I never did autocross when I had my Subaru's, but I'm interested to see what it's like with an AWD safety net.

I've considered getting Minis or even a Mazdaspeed3, but I know Subaru's pretty well now; having pulled the engines on both of mine. Ideally, I'm looking for an STi that needs work, but I'd do another WRX depending on the deal.

You should just get a new STi.

If you've got a spare $40k to give me, I would. I'd lose a ton o money buying a new one anyway; I'd rather get an 05-07. I've contacted some people about trading the Honda plus some cash. Seeing as how we're going into winter, I'm doubtful they'll be interested.
It's no big really. The Honda can sit and my Saturn's still a lot of fun. If it had a stick, I'd autocross it.
