"SPNKiX" (SPNKiX)

So, my wife gets a call from the dealer saying that they have a VIP customer who wants a 2013 Honda Fit. The dealer says they'll give us a 2015 Fit for our trouble. What the actual duck? Anyone have any insight into this? Sounds like a scam. It's the dealer we got the car from, a dealer we know. Has anyone heard of this kind of thing? Any help appreciated. Lucra lc470 for your troubles.

Anyone have any insight into this?
Here you go:
I'm sorry. I have no Insight for this situation, but that is odd. It'd be awesome if my local Ford dealer called and asked me if I wanted to give my '14 FoST to a VIP owner in exchange for a '15 Mustang V6 or GT. :P

Are you saying that this is just a ploy to get us to buy a new car and sell them a low depreciation, used vehicle a low trade in?

We get these on my wife's 2006 Corrolla all the time. It's a ploy.

yeah. this has to be it. I'm out of town right now and my wife called me to tell me this was happening on her way over to the dealer. I was like "CANCEL! Do not go until we figure this out!" I think they are trying to take advantage of her foreignness.

Yeah abort mission and return to base! Do the research and you'll see. In my case it's like who wants a 2006 Corrolla?Because I don't.

Plus if it matters to you, your 13 fit is japanese built, the new 15 fit is mexican built.

Give or sell? There's a huge difference between the two, and if they're suggesting you to trade in so they can have a car for this "special VIP costumer", they probably don't have a VIP costumer at all.

Good, it's great even, it's not just a funny reply, but one that is both context and semantically appropriate as well!

yeah. It sounds like we will have to pay but they tried really hard to conceal that. From a few of the comments, I'm pretty sure of what is going on now.

It probably doesn't hurt to ask, but if it's an offer for a trade in, just treat it as such and you should be fine

My sister had the same thing for her Renault Clio, but instead the garage offered to buy back the vehicle (for a very good price) rather than replace. She was told it was due to an 'important customer' needing an exact specification replacement, and hers was a match. I would go and talk face to face with them, it's much harder to stealership that way.

I'm betting what they mean is that they'll give you a better deal on a lease for a 2015 Fit. They'll word it in a way to lure you in to the dealership, where they'll make you a high pressure sales pitch. If I were you, I'd say "no thanks" and hang up.

It wouldn't hurt to go and see what the deal really is. Do y'all own the car out right, or do you have loan payments?

It's a ploy to get you into the dealership. Once you get there they will say "we can get you into a brand new fit for $10 less a month". You really think they can't find any 2013 Fit's that were traded in? PLUS VIP's don't drive Fits.

exactly. this part really stood out. VIPs only need cars like that to commit crimes.

If its paid off, then you should still look into it. It could potentially end up being an even trade, if it isn't, then walk away.

It's definitely a scam don't waste your time. I fell for it once until I actually got to the dealership. essentially all you are doing is trading in your car for a newer one. They will give you a greatly undervalued trade in price and try and make you finance the new car just like any other time you would trade in a next to new car. it is not an actually straight up trade. There is only one person that would lose and that would be you. A dealership will never loose a penny on any deal no matter how they make it sound like they are losing they are not. What ever you do don't go there you will want to punch someone by the time you are done.

"Hi, dealership (Jim). Yeah, it's Joe. Oh yeah, still enjoying the Fit. I want to talk to you about something, Jim. Trust. Honesty. About a month in, a bear got in and and the smell never went away. Can you ask your VIP customer if that will be a problem? Let me know and we'll go from there.."
Or some other fantastic thing that if you later have to deal with the dealership, that salesperson can be seen as delusional. "A bear attack? this interior looks fine! "
"They've gotten it cleaned! That's a different interior! something!"
(Shrug, exchange glances with manager, yeah, he's cracked..)
"Smell it! smell it! it's got bear scat ! #*$!!"
Surreal revenge on salespeople 101.

Or.... a mechanic took a customers '13 out for a ride + totaled it. The very unhappy customer refused to take a '15 to replace it. "I came in here with a green w/ black interior '13 Fit -and thats what I'm leaving with-or I'll sue you for everything you have!!" And since are the only other green/black '13 they sold, they want it from you to make everything go away.
Or its a scam.
