So here's a genuine npocp, I'm going to put a deposit on this thing tomorrow morning, so it's rather relevant to me. I saw the car and was impressed, extremely clean body, with alms ton rust to speak of, just coin-sized bubbling under the taillights, and in one spot on the trunk on the inside of the fender. Shock towers, rockers, and floors are all perfect, it runs smoothly, had the HG replaced 2 years ago, seems to have most of its 100 horses, the clutch feels almost new, and the steering is perfect. Oh and those Recaros....biggest problem is that it needs rear subframe mount bushings, which look relatively easy to replace. the guy is holding the car for me for a few weeks with the deposit, so i didn't try negotiating the price, what do you guys think?

Things to take into account: - 220k kms, and that is the original paint and it is lovely.

-Cheaper by $1500 than the only other E21 for sale here, and it's slammed/someone's project kinda deal

Doesn't seem like too bad a deal. Definitely look over the underbody and chassis for any rot.

I have, but I'll look more tomorrow, he claims it's been garage kept almost its whole life and it sure looks that way

It looked like it was. But Rear rust and bad rear bushings means it deserves a close look, to me, but I'm sure it is OK.

I was worried about the rust near the taillights until I learned that was about as common a problem as leaking E30 trunks, but yeah, it will get a closer look tomorrow

Original toolbox? Check

Little to no rust? Check

Super low price and buyer willing to hold it for you? Check, check.

Looks like a pretty clean E21. Go for it! I love the Recaros that are in these cars as well. Super cool seats.

yeah seems like a no brainer if you really want one of those. I doubt you'd find one at that price around here

Ya, no way anybody would come across another in that condition for a price like that. Definitely a NP.

With that kind of mileage the bushings would need replacing anyway - mine's only got 95000 mi on it and they need doing. If you have a look online there's a guy who custom casts poly bushings for E21s.
