I played the whole album once and didn't even notice that I had been listening to music.

I haven't heard it but I've seen the many, many ads for it on TV where they superimpose various 70s punk singers and bands on top of U2, who are the least punk band in the world, and that includes One Direction.

I listened to it once on a road trip a couple of weeks ago. In spite of the hype, I found it rather unremarkable, at least at first blush. It seemed to take a long while to really get going, and it didn't really grab my ear until the last couple of tracks. Perhaps it deserves another listen.

All we know is .... it's not music! It's music's commercial cousin!

I wouldn't recommend it.

That's what I said and I'm no U2 hater, at least when it comes to their music.

I can get into some older U2. I think this is the first time I have ever owned a U2 album.

I have a few but the newest one is The Joshua Tree, though I do like Mysterious Ways so I'll go all the way up to 1991.

As I listened, I wondered if the album was created specifically for Apple, or if Apple went to them with the idea and they cobbled together rejected songs or dormant projects and called it an album. It seemed incoherent at best.

Yeah, that pretty much describes U2 since Achtung Baby , or maybe Zooropa if I'm feeling generous.

They are superimposing video of The Ramones.
The lead single from the album, "The Miracle (of Joey Ramone)" is about the first time Bono saw The Ramones in concert. He was a huge fan of the late Joey Ramone.

What about The Clash, and Patti Smith? It just seems like U2 is trying to be something they aren't which isn't very punk.

Achtung Baby is where it's at, so many excellent ones on it. Zoo Station, Mysterious Ways, The Fly, Even better than the real thing, and One. The newer stuff is miles behind it.
