I'm not in love with the GT-R, but I feel like I have to own one sometime during my life just to experience it.

You could always rent one or have friends that own one.

Well all of my friends love GT-Rs so I guess I can wait until one of them get one.

There you go. I look forward to when these are allowed into the country:

I seriously CANNOT WAIT until they start getting imported by the thousands. When I start seeing them on the street like they're just a regular car, I'm gonna go crazy.
I wonder how much secondhand imported ones are going to cost...if enough are imported, the price will stay low.

I will to. While I'd never own one personally, I've always respected the R34 and would love to be able to see them on a consistent basis.
I agree. Hopefully, they won't be too bad.

It's probably a case of "don't meet your heroes" with this car. I'd probably never buy one either.
Mainly because I think the prices will only go up.

I agree — great car.
As to price, it is hard to say. In theory I think that there would be a dip in prices at some point, once there has been a lot of them imported, the list of those that still want to import them is small, and (again theoretically) supply is exceeding demand....
Why can't we have nice things Japan? (I'm looking at you Honda with the Type R).

Unfortunately I doubt many of these will be imported. I'd say less than 200-400 optimistically, which leaves them about as rare as the LFA (which I have seen once in my life). Luckily, CA is full of Fast & Furious diehards so someone is bound to buy one.
If I ever have the means (and a car or two already tucked in my garage), I would buy a mint Nismo version regardless of price.

True. I'll have to visit CA more often. Haha
The Nismo ones are definitely pretty cool. Did you see this article?

I have seen that article and I was all smiles (and drooling). For better or worse, my next car purchase will be extremely difficult with the GT-R (R35 or older gen), NSX, Vantage and 911 Carrera being contenders.
Until then the FR-S will suffice, just splurged on wheels/tires and a Thunderhill track day.

Sounds great. How was the track day?

It scheduled for later this month (hoping this heat wave passes!). It'll be my first time out to a track after owning the car 2+ years.
Not sure if i'll love it and demand more track time or walk away content. I tend to prefer hitting the backroads...

Ah. Well I hope you enjoy it.
What wheel/tire combo did you end up going with?

I choose 17x9 Rota Grids (Rays TE37v replica) to keep the wheel/tire combo lighter than stock while gaining 2" of tire on each corner. Hankook Ventus V12 Evo all around.
Felt it was a good compromise, I didn't want to splurge on what I saw as a "Top Shelf" wheel/tire combo without experiencing the middle ground first.

Do you ever get out and track your cars much? I know you like to customize and I've seen the laundry list of mods on the one Ford GT. What did you have prior to the GTs and GT-R?
I'm always curious what drives peoples selections, see as ultimately cars are a very fickle, emotional and personal matter. Numbers (specs) don't speak to me as much as the magazines and big brands would like to think

Not as much over the last 2 years but I have pretty consistently throughout most of my life.
Haha you're one the few that knows about my garage. The blue GT was kind of a fun project. I don't usually go that far out on a vehicle (usually minor upgrades that are better than factory) but I love my blue GT and wanted to make it perfect, as I'll probably keep it forever (not something I usually do).
Well considering I've been alive 72 years, there have been quite a few. Most recently, a GT-R, Aston Martin DBS, a few Porsches (CGT, GT3 RS, GT3 RS 4.0, GT2 RS), and of course my 12c and 2 GTs.
Car selection definitely is quite a subjective matter as very everyone likes something different. For me, car selection (especially now that I'm older) has always been about whats new, exciting, and/or different. Take the GT-R for example, I'd always owned and loved cars from the "established sportscar manufacturers." However, I kept hearing and reading about this new GT-R that was just blowing everyone away. So, I decide to look up Nissan's dealerships locally and see what all the fuss is about. Needless to say, it only took one test drive to make up my mind that I needed to own this car. It was just so different than anything I had ever experienced. Also, while not to everyone's taste, the look of the car is just so captivating. I can't tell you how many hours I spent going over ever little crease of the car. In short, I like being able to experience the various differences between multiple cars. Therefore, I usually only keep them for 1-2 years before replacing them with something new.
If you asked me what I define as the perfect super car, I'd probably say the GT. It mixes the best parts of modern vehicles with the old school character and elements of classics. Also, it is an absolute blast on track or a twisty road, but will still net you 25 mpg on the highway and not leave you with leg, neck, or back cramps.

I'm glad you have found a car that speaks to you in the Ford GT. I agree with the crux of your argument, which moreso elaborates on the different flavors of cars and how it is wise to experience them all. If one is exceptionally lucky, they can own an example of each to have cars compliment each other.
If I'm ever out near your area (TX if I recall), i'll have to buy you a cup of coffee and pick your brain. I may be relatively new to this car obsession at 26, but its a lifelong affliction I doubt I will shake.
My first true car has been my FR-S which I have modified (tastefully, i hope) and that project has grown a connection beyond metal and oil. It drew me into the fold of the car scene and taught me to go outside, drive and experience great roads.

Sounds like a plan and it's definitely an "affliction." Haha
I'm glad to hear that cars have claimed another victim. They're definitely fascinating machines.
