I plan to write a paper on the resurgence of platform based kit cars, you know, like how everything in the 70s was built off a VW chassis. I know there have been some articles done here and on the FP regarding a new version of this using a tesla skateboard or something similar. Anyone have any useful links or other help?

You can look at skateboard concepts, sure. You can look at stuff that Luigi Colani was doing a couple of years back. Then, you can take a step back, hit yourself in the head with a board, and then write about what kit cars are actually being built in droves: Factory Fives, repro Deuces, and 1st gen Mustangs.

The *second* kit car revolution already took place, quietly, and its been under the radar because it's reproduction based. Expecting another on the horizon for skateboards may or may not bear fruit, but I suspect anybody wanting anything thoroughly custom is building a Deuce already. There are few limits as to what you can come up with that's Deuce based, after all, and it mostly just has to meet thresholds for a 1932 reproduction... That's a hard act to follow for any "new" car of any kind.

They're not really kit cars, but what about the stuff Glickenhaus made ?

You should probably look at Homell, a former french manufacturer. They were building 2-seaters sports car on the chassis of the Peugeot 306.

Torch wrote a pretty great article on this. He linked to other sources, as well. He brings up the days of early motoring and coach building, which I'd definitely write about if I were you.

And you can always GIS "modular cars". I would also suggest source-fishing the wiki page on that, but it's surprisingly disappointing given the amount of other content and research out there.

One other thing: your library undoubtedly gives you access to some kind of search database. Use it to find magazine articles, scholarly articles, books, etc.
