BMW Z4M Coupe or Porsche Cayman S.

2 killer cars, one tough choice. I'm looking at these 2 cars after an exhaustive process of elimination. Performance wise they are nearly identical, personality wise they are polar opposites.

Cayman all the time every time when comparing these two.

If it was the Z4 M roadster, id go Porsche. If it was the Z4 Coupe, BMW all the way!

The Porsche is a more finely tuned tool, like a scalpel.

The BMW? That would be a Bowie knife.

One alphanumeric matters here. S54. That is all. The MZ4 was the swan song of the BMW traditional straight sixes, in a package that was stylistically ahead of its time, sitting on a chassis that was bred to be muscly in an oh-so-teutonic way. It's in the Fed dream garage.

This is how I am leaning too. A) They are more rare and unique. B) Like you said, S54 for crying out loud. C) I kinda like the idea of the wilder ride of the two.

It will be the coupe. I'm shooting for a pure performance car as this will be my everything car: HPDE, Autocross, track day, daily driver, you name it.

I've never read a bad review or heard a negative comment. Hard to pass on it. Have you driven both by chance? I'm dying to find someone who has.

If you want the best performing vehicle, then I guess it would be the mid engined Porsche. Still, the BMWs character and style is very hard to dismiss.

My room mate has a Cayman non S. It's such a fantastic car in that form that I couldn't ever pass on one. It is an amazing autocross car even.

Meamwhile I only see people who don't care about cars and just want some status symbol drive a Z4 and never see one at any track or autocross event.

Look up comparisons between the two. The Cayman is like the ultimate sports car, the Z4 is more of a GT car.

Wellll.......between the two I'd go for the Z4M over the 987.1 Cayman S. For the 987.2, I'd find one with the factory LSD. If not the 987.2 S, Z4M all day long.

Did you drive both before (and/or others?) before going with it?

Yep, my brother has a 2003 Boxter S that I got to drive. Good car but a number of reasons kept me from buying one, all the talk about IMS failures, the plastics pieces in the cabin didnt age that well, and somehow it felt too tame for my liking. I did drive the BRZ and G37 as well when I was looking, wasn't too impressed . Wanted the M coupe but couldn't find one so bought the Roadster, still is 95% of the car the coupe is, good enough for me. Here is a pic

Have not driven the Cayman, love my Z4MC. It's my HPDE, track, hit the mountains, drive it everywhere car. Love it! The ride is a little harsh, it's certainly no GT car, but full blown sports car. Last of the S54s. No, it's not for sale!

Yes! Did you know you're not supposed to be going down the track facing the wrong direction? Pucker factor for sure. Thought I was going to meet Mr. Wall.
