I've always wondered if the haldex can be upgraded/updated on these and how well the vr6 takes to force induction

I'm not sure about the haldex, though I do know there are a few companies that make "haldex performance controllers" (like an ECU upgrade for your AWD system) but I do know that the VR6 is turbo'd all the time. VR6 GTIs are much more popular for that exact reason. It's much easier to slap a turbo on there than to get more power out of the 1.8T. I've heard, though I can't verify, that even after they've been turbo'd they're pretty reliable.

Sounds interesting, i'm really drawn in by the GTIs and r32s of this age especially do to the simple design and engine note
