Here's what I would do, take the motor out and rebuild it. Port and polish the heads, install hardened valve seats, ditch the intake and create a Hilborn style intake with EFI, give it a modern alternator, ditch the points for an electronic ignition, make some headers, and run side pipes. Then I would completely re-wire the car. Swap out the radiator for a new custom built aluminum unit.

As for the interior, the back seat would be removed and replaced with a half-cage type roll bar, the fronts would be re-upholstered to be better suited to holding you in place, and the steering wheel replaced with a wooden wheel.

Finally, the brakes would all be upgraded, shocks replaced and modernized, bushings all replaced with poly units, and the steering swapped out for a Flaming River unassisted rack and pinion unit.

Kinja ate what I would do for the exterior, which is put a black mesh grill in with LED turn signals hidden behind it, put Cobra style jacking points on it instead of bumpers, swap the wheels out for magnesium minilites, and paint a single white diver's stripe running the length of the car.

Those engines were absolute jewels so I've heard. It's a real shame they weren't developed by Jaguar (who bought the company not too long after the engine was put into production) as it competed with the XK I6. In fact, displacement-for-displacement, the little V8 made more power and was more economical than the 6-pot.

Definitely a great candidate for heavy modification using the original drivetrain :)
