I know they're panned for the most part around here, but I quite like the pseudo-wagon shape with that sun visor/wing in the back.

Sorta reminds me of a modernized Saab 900.

Just for shits & giggles, here's some other related GIS wonders:

This color is awesome. I'm not a big fan of flat finishes, but this color!

re: the Sportback—it's the back not being as angular as the rest of the car that confuses me. It seems a little out of place. I also think it could have more usable space with a squared-off back, but I see the Saab comparison and kind of dig it regardless.

when ever I see those I always wonder how it faded but the WRX is always being talked about. I like that body style but I cant imagine gaining much room in the back over the sedan.

No, I agree that the current sportback version probably adds very little extra space. Compare it with the previous sportback model:

As to why the Lancer (or really, the Evo, which was deigned as the WRX-fighter) has become a footnote here in the States, honestly, I don't honestly know. Bad marketing by Mistubishi, coupled with the economic downturn, i guess? Whatever the reason, when the Evo X hit, all the praise and lust for Evos seemed to evaporate.
