"You can tell a Finn but you can't tell him much" (youcantellafinn)

The first part of this video was looping as a gif on the side of an article I was reading. WTF is the guy in the vest thinking? You can clearly see the wheels on the van are turned all the way left, and I would assume locked even in a 2"x2" animation. Waving at it won't make it turn, and running to the car that its going to hit is putting you in a bad spot. GET OUT OF THE WAY! The person in the car is going to be protected by the car, you standing next to it aren't helping anyone and you're just putting yourself in harms way.
Pro-tip/PSA: when cars are sliding around completely out of control on ice a person standing there loses every time. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. You can't catch a car sliding on ice no matter how slow its going. Don't even try.

It's easy to think that way when you're watching at home. I agree, but in the heat of the moment, I think his actions are pretty understandable. The better question is why that van was going so damned fast in the first place.

That first clip with the taxi van tells me everything I need to know as to why there are so many accidents in the dixie when the weather turns to this. Aside from being blunt and saying "People don't know how to drive in snow", I mean, people REALLY don't know how snow effects handling. That taxi had to be doing 30-40 on a road that was complete ice, obviously explains why he lost it and hit the focus.

Living in the snow belt I'm used to dealing with snow and ice, so my instincts are definitely to get out of the way. And whether its icy or dry, a car outweighs you by several thousand pounds, you will lose if you get in the way. As for the van speed I can only assume the driver isn't familiar with driving in slippery conditions and is going with the "I've got front wheel drive, I can go fast on bad roads" theory.

At least we know we will win with a much shorter battle if we just turn on some fire hoses in the cold.
