Ill go ahead and say it, though I know I'll get alot of flack for it. FWD=useless with 900hp

It's a drag car.

So buy a RWD platform. When your momentum is forward, the back goes down. That gives you more weight over the back (i.e. grip), where as in a fwd car, the front lifts and you lose grip. My point is, no matter how much work you put into a FWD car, it will never be as fast as a RWD one on a drag strip.

Kinja'd!!! PS9 > Dsscats

Kinja'd!!!1

So buy a RWD platform.

People buy what they like and mod what they buy, and they have a right to do that.

When your momentum is forward, the back goes down. That gives you more weight over the back (i.e. grip), where as in a fwd car, the front lifts and you lose grip.

Kinja'd!!!

So compensate for it. Every car exists as an attempt to engineer our way around specific problems.

My point is, no matter how much work you put into a FWD car, it will never be as fast as a RWD one on a drag strip.

Red Herring. If the platform is capable of meeting your personal speed goals, then the absolute limit is irrelevant. People have built 7 second FWD platform cars before, which already beyond the point most 'weekend warriors' can cross due to the massive time/energy/cost involved in getting there, no matter the platform.

FWD or RWD depends entirely on whether or not the grip loss due to a load shift ("back going down" refers to weight shift, which is the position of the body, not LOAD shift, which is the distribution of grip, which is more important and almost no amount of suspension work can compensate for) is outweighed by the weight and cost advantages, and if it does outweigh, does it outweigh it by a larger margin than the cost of converting to RWD based on what further FWD upgrades are? If yes, then it's worth converting from FWD to RWD. If not, then it's not.

Or, in other words, it's a lot cheaper to add boost onto a FWD junker that can take it, than to convert a car to RWD and expect better times. It's not so much about "start with the best" but "what's the next best thing to do given my resources?"

Modify gearbox to run backwards.

Race in reverse.

Best wrong wheel drive car ever.

There are a lot better platforms to start with still for cheap. I wasn't saying convert the prelude, though that would be awesome. What about a 300zx?

Lol, look what you did now....

Depends on what useless is. .I mean, he might just like to light his wheels up all the time. In that case, then this is the perfect, useful machine.

Prelude owners know rwd is better. But prelude owners love the prelude, so they dont want another car.

If/whenever we meet up you gotta give me a ride in the bmw. My dad has a 740i so id love to see how much more awesome the older 7 is.

Jalopnik has said NP to a lot of questionable cars as well... But yours, i would have bought especially if in your position.

How far central are you in jersey btw. You throw NJMP around like its around the block haha. Cause literally, im at opposite ends.

Not saying its out of the question, i just have to carefully plan it. But compared to Etown, it seems expensive, unless we can drive at NJMP without having to go through their driving school to get the track license.

annnnnnddd, i gotta flush out all my fluids before im confident in putting my lude on the track.

I am actually 20 minutes away form E town, I'd be down for a e town test n tune meet! Its only like 40 bucks with a race number and all, 30 if you have one iirc

Kinja'd!!!0

Is that drag or road course? Cause their website prices are a bit higher than that...

Kinja'd!!! offroadkarter > MountainCommand
02/01/2014 at 14:14

Kinja'd!!!0

The drag strip. They also do autoX and I think, think they have a small road course or something thats used for drift events.

I've gone to test and tune plenty of times there. Show me where they list prices on their site cause I can't find anything on T&T. I'm going by what I paid actually being there, the race number was 5 dollars, I know in total it was not over 40 dollars to get in and do 3 passes down the 1/4 mile.

and I'm not saying that in a snarky tone I'm just being honest lol

Kinja'd!!! MountainCommand > offroadkarter
02/01/2014 at 14:20

Kinja'd!!!0

I would do maybe 1 or 2 drag runs, just to see what my prelude still has after all these years. Besides that, its not a drag car, so running 15's could get a bit boring haha. plus extra hard launches could do some damage.

http://www.etownraceway.com/road_course.as…

I did not sense any snarkyness haha. But the site says they have drift, road course, drag, karting, and i dont see any autox.

02/01/2014 at 14:30

Kinja'd!!!0

I have no clue how the road course stuff works since I've never done it, but I wouldn't be adverse to doing it.

They do autocross in the back of the parking lot thats connected to the main lot where all the pit parking is, trust me I've seen it. Last time I was there they had "professional driving" training going on for people transporting VIP's. The time before that it was a regular autoX with miata's galore.

well whenever they get their new schedule out, we will have to try and set up something i think. And then just do whatever we can do that particular day without having to need any prerequisites.

Ive never been to etown so i dont know much about it though.

if we met up on a street night we'd all get 1 (and only one period) free pass down the 1/4 track, always that option.

This is one of those "because I can" situations, the last thing on their mind is for this to make sense, the first thing on their mind is how can we make this thing hook up, even though it has FWD?
