I went to Garmisch-Partenkirchen in late summer one year and there were already traces of ice in the nearby Partnach gorge. Probably pretty great winter sport conditions there right now - weather.com says light snow recently and steady low temps.

Here's the Partnachklamm with a hint of ice.

my family is from the Garmisch area. Spent whole months down there. Best was New Years Eve when they shoot fireworks off the Zugspitze. Gorgeous down there

I'd heard they do fireworks there from time to time - I imagine it's quite the thing.

I went a couple years ago and unknowingly went at the same time there was a MASSIVE BMW Motorrad gathering there, I think it was something like July 1 and we went up the Zugspitze and it was a straight up blizzard with over a foot of fresh snow, awesome stuff. I really can't wait to go back either.

it really is. My Aunt always kept a camper in a ground down there, right on the front range of the Alps, and we would camp there in the dead of winter no matter the snowfall. Stunning all around, from the Eibsee through the Alps into Austria

I'm heading to Munich next summer for a vacation with my in-laws. Unlike most people, I actually love spending time with my in-laws . It'll be my MIL, FIL, wife, and possibly my SIL and BIL depending if they can get off of work
I went there twice and loved it. Spent 3 weeks in 2005 and 3 more weeks in 2007 with a host family who I have remained very good friends with. The brother of my exchange-partner recently spent 6 months studying at UW-Madison, so I spent a good amount of time with him while he was here
