I get that you are trying to "defy convention" but to put the Mazda 3, a car, in the same league as Bruce Lee and Jackie Robinson it taking it a little far. Those two were cultural icons that radically altered the landscape their given sport. You made a fun to drive car, it is a nice car. It is not braking down race barriers, it is just a car.

That bugged me as well. They played those Ads quite often before the last couple of movies that I went to go see in Theaters and I also thought it was rather presumptuous of them.

Advertising like that implies cockiness they have no right to claim.
They did not make THE car.
They do not make THE cars.
They make cars. Full stop.
If Ferrari made that kind of commercial, well...yea. They can. They are cultural icons.
Mazda makes econoshitboxes (relatively speaking) and they should pipe down the hype train every now and then.

I actually despise all of Mazda's skyactiv videos. They frustrate me for some reason. very irritating. They made me pretty much hate Mazda because I can't stop associating any Mazda I see with this idiocy.

These ads are not for enthusiast. They are for the "swing voters" of the car buying public. For Car Buyer Guy and Car Buyer Girl. It is like the faceless politician who is running for dog catcher. You don't know who they are, but you see a shit ton of their signs all around. So when you get to the polls, you recognize their name and vote for them.
If one of those two car buyers goes to buy a car, but not sure what to get, they will go with what they remember.
"Hmmm...what car should I buy bro?"
"Not sure bro. But remember that kick ass mazduh commercial we saw that had Bruce Lee in it? He was so awesome. If he was still alive I bet he would kick Chuck Norris' ass and then all those jokes would be about him and not chuck norris! BRO!"

I got a homage to lightweights punching above their weight despite their size or opposition. Over the top? Maybe. But the 3 has much the same spirit as the the two men, their ethnicity shouldn't matter.

It amazes me when companies who have an actually good product resort to ads that are too advertise-y.
In Mazda's case, their whole value proposition is basically, here's a car that gets better mileage than its competitors, and hey guess what it's also nicer looking and more fun to drive too.
Once you get past the stupid references to "The Mazda Way" the ad basically says the car gets 41 mpg, has blind spot monitoring, and apps on the dash. Not particularly compelling stuff.
Say what you will about those awful Zoom Zoom ads but at least they got at the heart of that idea: "HEY OUR CARS ARE FUN TO DRIVE."
I'm no advertising person but you'd think that Mazda's ad agency could do a better job of highlighting the product's strengths.

The biggest sin was the Mazda6 ad with that god-awful cover of "Baba O'Riley".
