Instead, I found this. Slightly excessive rear camber aside, I actually kind of love it. I think I might want one.

I don't like slammed vehicles for road use because they are so impractical and take so much damage, but I like seeing the effort to try to do it right. He has bars and it looks like he has skid plates and doesn't have to worry about exhaust. It maybe annoying to crawl in and out of parking lots with, but at least it won't ruin the car doing so.

Isn't that kind of an oxymoron, a baja bug being a beetle that has been raised and with bigger wheels?

This actually looks like a race car in the same way that a tadpole become a frog.

Yep, which is exactly why I Googled it in the first place. Since it only maintains the lightweight fiberglass body kit (and potentially a roll cage), but with lower, stiffer suspension, what you're really winding up with is a track-prepped Beetle Superleggera.

There is far less wrong happening here than one might first expect.
I'm kind of loving it, too.

Yeah, high quality workmanship always helps. And actually, with such short overhangs, I bet it would actually be fine in most situations, although the front bar might get in the way.

The over hangs usually aren't as big of a deal as wheel base. Generally most damage done that actually matters happens to the frame rails, exhaust, and whatever suspension or drive train bits that are at the lowest points in the middle. Usually front and rear over hangs are fairly empty, up turned, or at least easily replaced.

Remember, stanced cars have most of the time an airbag system that lets them drive at acceptable hights, and sit parked low.

I wouldn't say "most". In fact, most slammed street cars are just chopped on springs and with spacers removed. There are some on airbags, but even then it's probably a minority that are correctly done. I have no problem is a properly setup car with something like an AccuAir system with skid plates/frame bumpers.
