A friend of mine calls me a gay hairdresser too. I give him a quick kiss, a slap on the butt, and laugh it off. He's funny that way.

the 95 M is my favorite Miata though that Merlot Pearl w the tan top, and gold BBS wheels is just plain sexy.

'96 M? Nice choice. Now you get to have the fun of base lining all the maintenance. How many miles does it have? Oh and don't forget to enjoy the hell out of it, the little motor loves to be near red line, and don't be afraid to hit the fuel cut off either. . .
BoxerFanatic, troublesome iconoclast.

Nice one!
And you don't have to justify it around here, the same way one might have to justify a Miata elsewhere.
Jalopnik, or at least OppositeLock, is very much like a meritocracy where Miatas are concerned... the car's merits completely justify it.
And welcome to the fold of Miata owners.
-BoxerFanatic, 1999 NB Classic Red base with preferred-equip-pkg, and Aero pkg. (same features as a 1999 Miata LS, but not tan leather and top... black cloth and black top instead, and no fog lights cut into the front bumper cover)
An M-edition is a very nice top-line car.

Awesome!
I am gay, and I've never owned one. A straight friend of mine has owned a slew of them.

Its got. 114k but rebuilt head I got the receipt for and the previous owner had the motor rebuilt at 55k.
I think I will change the trans fluid and oil tomorrow. And then move onto better things like cutting the fenders and puttting on stretched tires and some really budget coilovers...just kidding.

not bad, It probably was overheated to need the head rebuilt or the P.O got sick of the hydraulic lifter noise. . . With regards to the tranny fluid, use GL-4 only in the trans and GL-5 in the diff. There are people who report no issues with GL-5 in the tranny and others who report bad shifting with it in there. People reccomend using the Motorcraft fluid like it is liquid gold but it is also expensive, I have Redline MT90 in my trans and Redline 75-W90 in the diff. You can get away with any synthetic GL-5 in the diff though. The little shampoo bottle style fluid pump works wonders for trying to fill the tranny as well, the siphon bulb style pump is shit.
Once you get it all baselined out you will have one happy little Miata! Welcome to the addiction. . .
I got a 99 base with the fancy steering wheel and LSD. . .

Thanks for the tips I love the car already. The PO drove it without a belt for a while so I am guessing the water pump wasn't pumping and nuked the head which warped it.

Yup that is exactly what happened. Hopefully the water pump was changed while the motor was torn apart.
Get on Miata.net the garage section there can help you out with all the common jobs to be done on the Miata. Also when you do the tranny and diff fluid ALWAYS remove the FILL plug first before you drain the fluid out. Just in case you can't get the fill plug out you will at least have fluid in your tranny or diff.
Yeah they are damn addictive. . . Easy to learn about and easy to work on.

Cars don't make you who you are. Objects are not a statement of your personality. You can't communicate through things. Anyone that makes assumptions about a person based on what car they drive or what clothes they wear is ignorant and shallow. And rightly deserves to miss out on what a truly interesting person could bring into their lives. You make you. Not the sum of your possessions.

Well the M is for M- Edition the X I assume you are refering to is from the MX-5. I think like Xtreme maybe cuz its so Xtreme you cant even handle it like an energy drink. I need to do more lab work to find the meaning of the 5.

Hey Grimey, welcome to the club. My 1996 base model with only 60k miles (gotta love old guys). I love it and am DDing it through Wisconsin winter number 2 right now (some snow tires and goes like a truck, with the perfect balance helping out if things get slippery). Wish mine was an M I would love that LSD. Nice buy, enjoy it!

Thanks dude. I fell in love with it on the test drive after asking if I was actually a miata guy. (I dont know what that means) but anyways I am glad to hear it handles the snow well. My mustang is terrible in the snow. I look forward to modding the miata it and making it my own.
